Dreams of Rifts® movies dancing in my head
I had a wild dream last night.
In the dream, I was on a massive set for the Rifts® movie. The dream was very vivid, in technicolor, and very detailed. Of course, being a dream, things were outta whack.
Jerry Bruckheimer was there. All smiles and cheerful. I was sitting next to him in between takes, and we were talking about the SECOND Rifts® movie. Which is funny, since we don’t even have a first Rifts® movie yet! It was also funny, because in my dream, JB was actually directing parts of the movie, which of course, he doesn’t do. Jerry Bruckheimer is a producer, not a director. Crazy dream.
In the dream there was all kinds of stuff taking place and I could hardly keep up with the frenzy of activity – there was building and set changes being made, actors walking around (I remember asking if I could get them to sign a copy of Rifts® Ultimate for me and an assistant taking it around for everyone to sign). There was a parade of people showing me and Jerry concept drawings and digital renderings on lap tops for our approval, and folks asking Jerry about script changes. Jerry and others kept asking my opinion on a hundred different things, which wouldn’t happen. Any involvement I may have with the film will be very limited and probably happen only in pre-production.
Still, it was a very enjoyable and fun dream (and not the premonition kind of dream – I wish!). I woke up smiling and I thought I would share the silliness with you.
The real world. Before I get a pile of Private Messages and emails asking if there has been any new developments with the Rifts® Movie, I’m afraid the answer is no. There is nothing new to report. It’s still a waiting game. But fingers are crossed, letters to JB Films telling them how much fans want to see a Rifts® Movie have been sent, and prayers in the cue.
It would be amazing to see it happen, though, wouldn't it? Wow, I get a thrill every time I see my ideas, words and creations brought to life by Palladium's artists as well as new mediums like miniatures, animation, videogame 3D renderings, comic books, etc., even if many were ill-fated projects like the N-Gage and several MMOG attempts that never got off the ground.
If done right, a big budget motion picture would be incredible. It is fun to daydream about, and night dream about, but for now, that's all it is, a dream. So me and the Palladium crew need to stay focused on the reality of our pen and paper realms of adventure.
Ah, if only the executives of a major videogame or film company read my Murmurs, and said to themselves, “Man, Rifts® (or any of Palladium's games) would make an amazing film, videogame, or MMOG. We’d make billions! I need to call Kevin Siembieda, secure those I.P. rights immediately, and get the project into immediate production!”
Oops, daydreaming again. Back to work in the real world.
Sincerely,
Kevin Siembieda
