Palladium Mini-Update August 11, 2009
I’m starting to feel much more energized today and back to work getting caught up from my week away. (I was in Seattle all of last week for my daughter Monica’s wedding to Steven Stanfield). I’m diving back into the final edit and additions to Mysteries of Magic™ Book One: Heart of Magic™, so it’s a good thing we aren’t going to Gen Con.
No conventions in 2009 is a mixed blessing
On one hand, our decision to skip attending ALL conventions in 2009 has been a good move. It has enabled us to get a lot of new products out and in your hands. Case in point, if we were going to Gen Con, we’d be have spent all of last week prepping for it and be getting ready to leave today or tomorrow. The rest of the week would be at Gen Con, followed by a week of recuperating from the event. That’s three weeks of production work lost. Travel and conventions are a lot of work that steals away more time than it seems at first glance.
On the other hand, not going to game conventions means Palladium does not have an obvious presence there, we lose word of mouth promotion and sales, and we do not have an opportunity to game with or meet fans (which we miss the most).
We hope all of you attending Gen Con have a fun time. Know that we’ll be thinking of you all week. I imagine Palladium Books will probably attend Gen Con along with a few other conventions in 2010, plus the 2010 Palladium Open House, of course. (Julius has already plotted and rolled up characters for the SEVEN games he plans to run at next year’s POH.)
Good online sales
I’m happy to report that sales have been strong for the last two weeks. Weekend sales for this week were lower, but sales this morning were back up. Overall, the week is starting out well. Hopefully, we are on track for our third strong week of sales in a row. Distributor sales have also remained solid.
Palladium Open House
VIP Thursday Admissions ticket sales
As we expected, with the uncertain economy and the Palladium Open House being 9 months away, advanced admissions sales were slower than past offerings. There are still about 10 slots available, so those of you planning on coming still have time to place your orders. Another 20 will be made available in February, 2010.
Actually, we didn’t know what to expect. So many people are financially hurting, we weren’t sure how many folks could commit to the event this early. All in all, we are surprised and very pleased with the response. We look forward to seeing new and familiar faces at the 2010 Open House.

Mysteries of Magic™ Book One: Heart of Magic™
Cover – done.
Logo - done.
Interior art – done.
Writing (except for some changes and additions) – done.
Editing and some additions – started.
This going to be a great addition to the Palladium Fantasy RPG®, and even though it is specifically written for the Fantasy RPG®, the spells can be dropped right into Heroes Unlimited™ and other S.D.C. settings without conversion, and easily adapted to Rifts®.
Rifts® Black Vault™ sourcebook,
Rifts® Bionics sourcebook, and
Rifts® WB 5: Triax & The NGR
Will be made available for online sales this month. Sorry it has taken so long to make them available again, but we are just buried.
Rifts® Cyber-Knights™ sourcebook
and Rifts® China One are available now
The Rifts® Cyber-Knights™ Sourcebook and Rifts® China One came available last week. Both books are epic.
There are also new additions to the PDF titles available on DriveThruRPG.com including the Rifts® Game Shield.
What do we work on next?
Dimensional Outbreak™, Robotech® UEEF Marines, Heroes of the Megaverse® sourcebook, The Rifter®, and with a little luck, a new Dead Reign™ sourcebook – pretty much in that order, followed by more of everything!
I’ll be the guest on Gateway to the Megaverse® – August 17
I’m back on the live podcast show Gateway to the Megaverse® next Monday. This is the podcast where I’ll be answering questions (as time permits) about everything and anything, so ask your hard questions and I'll try to answer.
Queen of Ghouls
Kathy Simmon’s new business is off to a roaring start. She got absolute raves at the Allen Park Arts and Crafts Fair, sold a bunch of ghouls, and got a lot of helpful input and requests. Unfortunately, torrential rain storms washed out Saturday (the biggest day of the fair). That’s okay, she has a bunch of new ghouls – wizards, witches, zombies and devils – going up every day this week with more being made and posted every week. Check ‘em out at the Queen of Ghouls Ebay Store. They are fantastic yard decorations, haunted house monsters and door greeters.

Enjoy all the new products and titles coming back in stock in August and the months to come. Game on and keep those imaginations burning bright.
