Along with many of the other things my schitz brain has been working on, I am coming up with building tables for random searches. The one I am working on now is for gas stations since I figure those are pretty popular. I wanted to share what I have come up with so far, and if anyone can think of things I am missing, should include or am just want unrealistic on let me know! Thanks.
Coming to you in multiple installments.
Gas Station
Gas stations can be a treasure trove of supplies. Even looted gas stations might still contain a lot of useful supplies. Unfortunately gas stations tend to be pretty prominently placed, so they are often the first places to be looted. As such many are picked over to greater or lesser degrees, but don’t let that stop you from checking one out.
01-70 The Station is intact, but picked over. Reduce all rolls by -30%
71-85 The station is intact, but there are signs that someone grabbed some of the supplies hastily. Reduce all rolls by -15%
86-95 The station is intact and untouched! It might be locked or possibly unlocked, but just completely overlooked.
96-00 The station itself is burnt to the ground, in shambles, etc. The pumps are still intact so there might be gas left in the under ground tanks. All rolls except for gas are -70% (might be something in the ruins/ashes). Rolls for gas and the parking lot are -40%
Zombie population
01-60 No zombies in the station
61-80 A shambler is dormant under spilled magazines, in a closet, in the bathroom, etc.
81-90 A crawler is behind the counter, under magazines, etc.
91-00 1d4 crawlers and 1d4 shamblers are somewhere in the building or on the premise
Survivor population
01-30 No one is present
31-50 A dead body is in the station
51-70 1d4 dead bodies are in the station
71-90 A single survivor is in the station, possibly locked up hiding from the zombies that are in the station
91-00 1d4 survivors are hiding in the station
Contents of the parking lot
The parking lot of the gas station may contain some vehicles or other ‘goodies’. Especially for stations with a repair garage there are vehicles parked for repair, servicing, etc. The roll for zombies includes the parking lot.
01-40% 1d4 sedans are parked in the lot in running order
01-75% 1d4+1 sedans are parked in the lot that are not working
01-30% 1d4 SUVs or pickups are parked in the lot in running order
01-60% 1d4+1 SUVs or pickups are parked in the lot that are not working
01-05% A fuel truck is parked in the lot! 01-33% chance it has a full fuel load, 34-66% it has a half load, 67-00 bone dry! Better luck next time.
01-10% A bus is parked in the lot
01-05% a police car is parked in the lot with all of its gear including a police radio, 1 patrol rifle or shotgun and a box of 3d6+20 rounds and a Kevlar vest

Re: Building contents
Gas pumps
If the power is out, which is extremely likely, then the pumps aren’t going to work at all; However, all stations have access hatches for their in ground tanks. Some stations have diesel tanks/pumps as well, but not all do. A long siphon or a hand cranked drum pump will work to remove gas from the underground tanks. Most stations have several in ground tanks, so it is best to check each one.
01-03% The station still has electrical power, fill ‘er up!
01-25% The station has a generator to run the pumps and power the station when power is out. Turn it on and the pumps will work
01-35% The station has diesel tanks
Gasoline tanks
01-30 The tanks are completely empty, sorry
31-40 The tanks have only 3d6+10 gallons left in them
41-50 The tanks have 1d4x100 gallons left in them
51-60 The tanks have 3d4x100 gallons left in them
61-70 The tanks have 4d6x100 gallons left in them
71-80 The tanks have 1d4x1000 gallons left in them
81-90 The tanks have 3d4x1000 gallons left in them
91-00 The tanks are nearly full, they have 4d6x1000+1000 gallons left in them
Diesel tanks
01-30 The tanks are completely empty, sorry
31-40 The tanks have only 3d6+10 gallons left in them
41-50 The tanks have 3d6x10 gallons left in them
51-60 The tanks have 1d4x100 gallons left in them
61-70 The tanks have 2d6x100 gallons left in them
71-80 The tanks have 5d6x100 gallons left in them
81-90 The tanks have 2d4x1000 gallons left in them
91-00 The tanks are nearly full, they have 2d6x1000+2000 gallons left in them
Station contents
Stations vary in size of tiny little stations with pumps and a teller that only sell gas all the way to giant stations that have minimarts and fast food restaurants in them. The following are the contents for the average gas station (falling somewhere in the middle). Every gas station is likely to have a number of magazines can be found, 2d10x10 snacks such as pretzels, chips, candy bars, twinkies, etc. in long lasting plastic wrappers (usually good for 2-3 years), 1d8x10 bottles of water, 1d8x10 sodas, 1d4x10 energy drinks and local and regional maps. A looted store may still have some or none of the above (roll a d100 for each to determine the percent left, round down).
01-90% Tobacco, tobacco. There are 1d4x10 cartons of cigarettes, 3d6 packs of cigars and 4d6 cans of chewing tobacco behind the counter. If looted then reduce the amount by half.
01-40% Liquor license. This gas station has a liquor license and has a stock of alcohol. 5d6 bottles of hard liquor, 6d6 bottles of cheap wine and 3d4x10 cans and bottles of beer can be found. Reduce by half if the station has been looted.
01-15% A loaded handgun beneath the counter. No extra ammo.
01-10% An open box of 4d6 bullets for a handgun under the counter.
01-20% A loaded shotgun beneath the counter. No extra ammo.
01-05% An open box of 3d6 shot gun shells under the counter.
01-85% A chemical fire extinguisher
01-40% 1d6 5 gallon gas cans (empty)
01-60% 2d8 2 gallon gas cans (empty)
01-80% 5d6 quarts of motor oil
01-50% 1d6 quarts of transmission fluid
01-70% 1d4 gallons of anti-freeze
01-60% 2d4 pints of brake fluid
01-40% bathroom cleaning products for the station bathroom
Station Garage
A lot of stations have a service garage and make a lot of their money off of servicing and repairing vehicles. If a servicing garage is present then there is a 01-70% chance for each vehicle (running or not) in the lot that the keys to the vehicle are in the garage. There is a 01-50% chance that any given gas station has a service garage. Unless looted all garages have an extensive vehicle tool set consisting of common tools, a vehicle lift or two, engine lift, impact wrenches, a few spare pairs of coveralls, etc. In addition a service garage is likely to have the following. All spare parts have a 20% chance of working on the character’s vehicle (roll for each part).
01-40% A working car or truck in a bay with the keys in the ignition.
01-60% A non-working car or truck in a bay with the keys in the ignition
01-30% A welding/cutting torch and fuel tanks.
01-90% 1d4x10 quarts of oil
01-80% 4d6 pints of brake fluid
01-90% 2d4 gallons of anti-freeze
01-80% 3d6 quarts of transmission fluid
01-70% 2d4 tires
01-30% 1d4 spare alternators
01-50% 2d4 sets of brake pads
01-40% 1d4 water pumps
01-90% 3d4 spark plugs
01-15% A fuel pump
01-80% 1d4 car batteries
01-30% A radiator
01-15% A working tow truck
01-20% A half empty bottle of liquor in a pile of tires or in a tool kit
01-05% A pistol with 2d6 extra bullets or a spare clip hidden in a tool kit or in coveralls.
That is all I can think of. Thoughts, ideas, comments, criticisms???

Nice thread, and useful for System Failure and (possibly) ATB games too.

These tables could be a rifter submission.
Re: Building contents
Well seeing as there hasn't been any additions to this thread, I have come up with some tables of my own for vehicles themselves. I will be posting them tomorrow or the next day as I went stupid and forgot the stupid information off my home computer.

Re: Building contents
I haven't worked on the gas station tables any recently, but I am working on random vehicle search tables as well as things specific to the vehicles themselves. Such as do you find a single vehicle, several, a bunch, a horde, a mob. Tables for the type of vehicle (sub-compact, compact, mid-sized sedan, large sedan, small SUV, etc, etc). Tables for what condition it is in (non-functional, needs minor work, runs barely, runs okay, runs great, like new, runs but smashed up, out of gas, half tank, etc). And lastly what is in it (owners manual, CDs, portable DVD player, movies, spare tire and jack, gas can, mutlitool, tool kit, flares, trash, magazines, books, handgun, etc).

Hmmm, true, I'll have to update the tables.

Azazel, check out my Vehicle Contents thread for ideas.
Perhaps we can work on something together to streamline the system?
