A good weekend

Unread post by Kevin »

It was a good weekend

In fact, it was a weekend of welcomed, small miracles.

I am delighted to say sales were way up! And not just X-Mas Grab Bags, but a lot of regular titles, especially Mysteries of Magic™ and Palladium Fantasy® books, among many other titles and nonbook products. Very encouraging. The trick is seeing if it lasts. Our fingers are crossed and we are working hard on the next several books.

The Rifter® #48 was finished over the weekend and is being sent in to the printer this morning. It is another great horror issue with an epic Rifts® adventure, source material about Nightbane®, Horror Factor, Priests and more.

My thanks to Alex and Julius who came in over the weekend to ensure The Rifter® got finished and to the printer, and to Wayne who chipped in and gave us a hand with a few things as well. He’s dying to come back to work as soon as possible. I'm hoping that will be in a couple of weeks.

I worked on various things over the weekend from The Rifter® to Dead Reign™ and Robotech® Marines. Writing was going slower than I would like but it was going very well.

I spoke to my brother and several friends over the weekend and they also helped to lift my spirits and energize my writing.

For me, it was a beautiful, sunny, peaceful weekend full of friends, ideas, writing and music while I wrote. The ideas were coming smoothly and the writing felt good. It was one of those weekends where you think, despite your problems and tribulations, you have it pretty damn good. I love my work and it felt good to immerse myself in writing.

As for small miracles, even the Detroit Lions football team FINALLY won a game. They had lost 19 games in a row, a dubious NFL record. It is a streak us Detroiters are happy to see come to an end.

Today, I'm feeling fairly calm, focused and refreshed. I was writing away on Dead Reign™ Dark Places before I stopped to write this Murmur update, and I'll be getting back to it as soon as I post the Murmur.

Kathy Simmons' weekend wasn’t as rewarding. The sale of her ghouls on her Queen of Ghouls Ebay store have stalled. I don’t know why, because her ghouls are incredible and so lifelike. They make fantastic Halloween displays, but money is tight (as we well know, eh). I’m hoping people are just waiting till Halloween is closer. Kathy dropped off grab bags all weekend for me to review, processed orders and took care of bookkeeping. On Sunday, she had just finished off an epic Frankenstein Monster display prop only to have an accident with him and now had to completely remake the figure. Two days of work shot. She’s also worried about her daughter Tina. The young woman (32 years old, same as my own daughter) has surgery on Thursday to remove some tumors and will find out by the end of the week if they are benign or cancer. Our prayers are with Kathy, Tina and their loved ones that they are benign and all will be fine.

My gratitude to those of you who have been placing orders. And to those of you who have been making warm and generous comments in your X-Mas Surprise Package orders. The purchases and words of affection and encouragement are appreciated.

Keep the orders coming and spread the word about the 2009 Christmas Surprise Packages. Thanks again and game on.

Sincerely,
