This week so far – October 14, 2009
Monday and Tuesday
- Wayne Smith came back from his temporary lay-off on Monday. Boy, are we glad to him back at the office.
- In addition to handling a variety of business demands, I had the 322 photos I took on Sunday processed (selected and printed about half of them for future art reference) and put them on CD at Sam’s Club. Check out the Murmur: "Who will bail us out of jail" for more about the photo shoot.
- Then Wayne and I goofed around with tweaking the photos for use in Dead Reign™ Dark Places™. That took something like 2-3 hours, but it was a lot of fun and they look great. You’ll see a number of them in the sourcebook. Wayne spent half of Tuesday working on more.
- Mark Dudley came in Tuesday and spent a couple hours signing books for Christmas Grab Bags. The lazy bum thought signing 200 books was a lot. Sheesh. The Palladium crew and it sign that many every couple of days and have already signed something in the neighborhood of 1000 books already this season. Even Hank has signed 600+.
- Mark Dudley’s print is a pulse pounding full page illustration that will appear in Dimensional Outbreak, so you’ll get a sneak peak at it when your request the Special 2009 Print Package (available ONLY in the Christmas Surprise Package – each print signed by the artist and limited to only 500 copies, estimated value $40; black and white). It is at the printer. Hah, so Mark will be signing 500 prints any day now. We’re waiting for one more or for me to do a second print. Mike Mumah was supposed to do it but being hospitalized and all . . .
- Nick Bradshaw’s print came in and . . . well wait till you see it. Vintage Bradshaw. Nice.
- I spoke with Mike Mumah on Tuesday. He is out of the hospital, back home and sounded good. The doctors are still trying to get his blood pressure medicine right and he’s still feeling a bit tired, but doing okay.
- The rest of the Palladium crew and I signed another 200 books ourselves, and selected material for the latest 56 Grab Bags. I’ve been loading them up, so I think most people will love what they get.
- 10-30 Christmas Surprise Packages (aka “Grab Bags”) have been going out every day this week.
- I also dug out and bagged a bunch of artwork from my personal collection to include in the some the X-mas Surprise Packages, mostly art by Kent Burles and me at this point, but a few others. Each includes a value indicated on a certificate of authenticity. I also finished signing my 500 prints for the Special Print Set.
- Still waiting for the sketches from my various artists. Bradshaw sent some, and I’ve done some, but that’s it so far.
- Paying bills was the least fun and most depressing part of the day on Tuesday. While we’ve made some good headway these past few weeks, bills still loom and cash flow is tight. It didn’t help that some unexpected opportunities came up which are good in the long run, but required cash up-front NOW. Like seasonal rate for snow removal that is HALF the usual rate, only I need to pay, in full, by November 1st to get it.
- The special short-run printing of Old Ones™ is done. Wayne is picking it up this morning (Wednesday). Chaos Earth™ Rise of Magic™, Aliens Unlmited™ and Rifts® Dark Conversion™ are next in line.
- The Rifter® 48 ships tomorrow or Friday, October 15 or 16.
- There was a lot of other dull business stuff going on Monday and Tuesday, but not really worth listing. Both days seemed very long and very hectic. Not enough hours in the day.
Today is Chemo-Wednesday
Another Wednesday, another chemotherapy treatment for my Dad. I’ll be heading out to take Dad to breakfast and his next chemo treatment for bladder cancer. He’s doing pretty good and seems fair positive lately. The doctors are still trying to figure out the proper care for his friend and roommate, Arlene. With wish them both luck and good health.
That’s it for now. Keep those imaginations burning. When I get back from my Dad’s I’ll be diving back into Dead Reign™ Dark Places™, which we hope to finish by the weekend. Outbreak or Robotech® Marines is next.
Sincerely,
