A lousy day -- October 22, 2009

Today was a lousy day
- Sales were down again today. Paying bills and juggling money this afternoon didn’t make it any better. It was frustrating and depressing.
- I feel like I’m spending too much time on Dead Reign™: Dark Places™. I hate not having the luxury of time to work on a book. I think what’s done is excellent, now I need to wrap it up, get it to the printer and dive into Dimensional Outbreak™. New books drive sales.
– Found out that my Dad’s friends and apartment-mate, Arlene, is seriously ill and in the isolation ward at the hospital. The doctors don’t know how long it will take to get her stable and home this time with closer observation to follow. Dad could be stuck with me for a while and is worried and down about Arlene.
- I’m frustrated, worried and distracted about Dad, Arlene, Palladium, business and getting products released. Not getting restful sleep with Dad at the apartment. Work day is broken up. Need to put in longer hours at work, but Dad can’t really be left alone. Gaaaah.
On the flip side
I’ve gotten in some good rewriting today on Dead Reign™: Dark Places™.
Hollywood continues to knock and I have delusions of Palladium becoming the Marvel Comics of gaming. Meaning I dream of one intellectual property after another going to the big screen. Hey, I can dream.
A small, independent Hollywood movie producer is interested in a Palladium property other than Rifts®. I can’t discuss what it is right now and it may go nowhere. I don’t know what “interested” means yet – how interested he may be – or what that might translate into moneywise and productionwise. I'm hoping he's serious and looking to move quickly (unlike the Rifts® movie). I’ve been in and out so much these past two weeks, that I keep missing his calls and he misses mine. I hate playing telephone tag. At least it is more promising news for Palladium’s future . . . assuming we can survive the present.
I guess that roller coaster continues to go up and down. Just wish some of the immediate cash flow pressure would abate. I know fans are doing what they can and buying up Palladium product and Christmas Surprise Packages as best as they can afford. Damn lousy economy. Certainly the guys are all doing what they can do. Of course the Catch 22 is that while Christmas Surprise Packages help they also take a ton of time away from writing and other work. Doing all we can.
Hope you don’t mind my venting. Back to writing.
Sincerely,
Kevin Siembieda
