Mini-Update October 29, 2009

The week, on an emotional level, was up and down, like online sales.

My Dad finally went back home Monday evening, a week after he came to stay with me.

I love my Dad, but it’s hard on both of us when he has to stay with me. Dad is out of his element, bored and worried about his friend Arlene in the hospital. I don’t get good rest sleeping on the couch and my day is broken up and cut short having to take care of my Dad. It’s emotionally draining to see him not himself, confused and needing help. As for Arlene, I hope they get a handle on maintaining her health so she’s not bouncing in and out of the hospital every 5-14 days. I also hope she decides on a treatment. She can’t keep just getting transfusions and such. Arlene is suffering from ITP, a rare autoimmune bleeding disorder creating a condition known as thrombocytopenia, and complicated by her Lupus and low blood pressure. Dad was pretty worried about her this last time. Scary.

Between my worries about Dad, Arlene, what will become of Dad if Arlene gets sicker (or God forbid, dies!), bills, cash flow, deadlines, writing, and other business issues, I’ve pretty much felt like a train wreck. It was hard writing most of last week, but I’ve had a few days this week where I have been writing up a storm and ideas have been flying.

I took my Dad (Hank) to breakfast and chemotherapy on Wednesday, and spent the latter half of the day working on Dead Reign: Dark Places. I’m happy to report that Hank’s chemo seems to be going very well and practically free of any ill side effects. Doctor Law (a great guy) is very pleased. Next week is Hank’s last chemo treatment, then it's wait three months and pray the cancer is gone. I told Dad that I’d continue to come over on Wednesday mornings to take him to breakfast and visit a bit. He liked that idea.

Dead Reign: Dark Places is almost done and is pretty darn cool. It was one of those fun books that took on a life of its own, at least when the writing of it wasn’t getting constantly interrupted. I think it will please and maybe surprise a lot of people. Outbreak is next.

Online Sales were not so great this week, but not terrible either. Keep the orders and Christmas Surprise Packages coming.

There’s more going on, but I figured I should leave something for the Friday Press release.

We’re hanging in there for now and trying to stay positive. I hope you are doing likewise. Happy Halloween in a couple of days and don’t forget to turn your clocks back an hour Saturday night.

Sincerely,
