A good weekend

It was a pretty good weekend

I wrote up a storm on Dead Reign™: Dark Places™ and jotted down a bunch of new ideas for other books.

Stopped by Kathy’s and my old neighbors on Halloween for about 45 minutes. I had planned to visit Jeff Hansen and family on Halloween. I had some Halloween stuff for his four girls and I hadn’t seen his wife, Heather or the girls in awhile, but I was waaaaay too hot writing. Worked till almost 11:00 PM. I had to keep writing.

I put in another 5-6 hours writing on Sunday and 5 hours running around buying up day after Halloween specials for Kathy Simmons and her Queen of Ghouls business. We got a ton of great deals. Halloween USA and Spirit had 50% off sales on select items and Walgreens had a 75% off sale. Made out like bandits. Kathy plans on offering ghouls throughout the year, has gotten some special requests and is working on life-sized Christmas props and decorations including Santa, Christmas Scarecrows and a number of other things. Of course she has many ideas for new zombies, ghouls and things that go bump in the night.

Went home tired but feeling positive. Watched Dexter and Mad Men (I love both shows) and hit the sack around 11:45 PM.

Got up around 7:00 AM Monday morning, but was dragging a little all day. I think all these 7 day work weeks are wearing me out. Read through Grab Bag want lists and helped Julius pull, sign and ship another couple dozen out by this afternoon.

Weekend sales could have been better, but they were solid and welcomed. Sales seem to be dropping off a bit this last week (down 30% from most of October). We saw the same thing happen last year too, so I’m not worried, yet. Last year, a lot of people waited till the last three weeks of December to place Christmas book and Grab Bag orders last. That’s fine, but I have found spreading out my Christmas purchases over 2-4 months makes paying the bills much easier. That's my advice.

No word about Nightbane® from Hollywood yet, though my agent had a good talk with the interested party last Thursday.

I got a lot of things done today (Monday, November 2, 2009), including FINALLY shipping out PR and Contributor copies of The Rifter® #48. Sorry it took so long everyone. I also paid some bills, answered a number of correspondences, spoke with Mark Dudley, and took care of some other business. All day I was dying to get back to writing Dead Reign™: Dark Places™, but it was not meant to be today. I plan on coming in early Tuesday and writing all day before Chemo-Wednesday with my Dad.

It was weird, but I’ve heard from nearly a dozen cherished old and not so old friends the past 3-4 days, my son, Adam too. Everyone has been caring, kind and worried about me and Palladium. I told ‘em all it is what it is and we’re doing our best – just like everyone else during these rough days. It was nice hearing from everyone and feeling their love.

On Friday, Palladium received an amazing Halloween fruit basket from freelancer Steven Dawes full of sliced melon, pinapple ghosts and other good stuff. It brightened our entire weekend. Thanks, Steve. You shouldn't have, but glad you did because it was absolutely delicious. Yum.

Hoping for a strong week of sales and finishing up Dead Reign: Dark Places. Wayne should start typesetting tomorrow and layout by Wednesday.

Sincerely,
