Dark Places™ done and sent to the printer

Unread post by Kevin »

Dead Reign™: Dark Places™ is finally done and at the printer!

I’m very pleased with the book and think you will be too.

EVERYONE who has read it on this end has made the same comment: “This book is scary.”

Scary. I love hearing that. Making the book scary was one of my goals. Scary is good. :)

I also got comments that a lot of the subject matter feels new and original. I was very pleased to hear that too, because I want to take the zombie story into new and never, or seldom, explored areas. And I want it to be gritty and scary. So far, so good on all counts.

Before reading them, Alex and Wayne had some misgivings about including four new zombies. They feared the zombies would be only slight variations of previous zombies, but were surprised and pleased to find they are not.

One of the new zombies is an expanded and tweaked version of Steven Dawes’ Impersonator Zombie that appeared in The Rifter #48. The others are . . . hmm, I don’t want to give away too much – let's say the are creepy and disgusting. After helping me research and then edit the material, Wayne says he never wants me to write about bugs again. Yeah, disgusting and scary is good. :D

I love taking material that people think they know and give it a twist and a zing that makes the subject matter feel new, different and fun. I think there is a lot of that in Dark Places™. I’ll be dying to see what people think of it.

I don’t have a ship date yet from the printer, but it should either be just before Thanksgiving or just after it.

I feel terrible that our schedule is so shot, but it was unavoidable. The situation with my Dad and his friend Arlene, both getting seriously ill at the same time, and all the baggage that came with it just stole a huge chunk of my time and energy for the last 2-3 months. Christmas Surprise Packages, as wonderful as they are, stole another big chunk (but keep 'em coming, please).

I’m trying to get back on track and expect to start work on Dimensional Outbreak™ tomorrow.

Of course, the first three days of next week will be spent at Blizzard Entertainment where I’m giving two seminars and meeting with some friends. I'm very excited about the trip.

Btw, my pal Phil is doing well after his heart attack and should be coming home in a day or two.

Keep those imaginations burning bright and buy Dead Reign and its exciting and scary sourcebooks. ;) Game on.

Sincerely,
Kevin Siembieda
