Running a Rifts Game. Could Use some Help.

Hey,

This is kind of a long read, my apologies.

In any case, I could use some help. I'm running a new Rifts campaign and my players have found an abandoned N.E.M.A. R&D Base. It's 8 levels underground, with a primary housing chamber being accessible from levels 7 and 8. The housing chamber also has a giant supply elevator connecting it to the surface at an angle, with several layers of thick blast doors separating it.

The players found this after investigating the source of a demonic tome, hoping to find more rare artifacts. They started off being able to access the first level, with most of the rooms on that level already scavenged by a nearby mining operation. No one else has been able to access the rest of the facility due mostly to structural instability the first level displayed. This top level held mostly supply rooms, two offices, and a small research center equipped with a clean room. They also found a large store room that looked like it housed weapons and armor along with an MDC lock box that had protection symbols etched into it, which they believe is where the book came from.

After exploring a bit more they found what looks to be a large room with several monitors that activate as soon as they stepped into the room. The main computer system displays structural information on the facility, showing most of the lower levels structurally sound. They also noted that several elevators exist, but are inoperable due to the primary power reactor being off-line. Sections of the research facility are operating on emergency power, activating because of the PC's presence. Several of these section have power devoted to them to purposely keep the PC's out, flooding hallways and rooms with a form of radiation as a defense measure to kill any biological life forms.

They managed to gain access to the second level by taking advantage of a weakened and damaged floor, which also allowed them to move on to level 3 via a staircase. Trying to work around to level 4, they decided to drill a hole and then use a directed explosive to smash a hole into the next level, keeping in mind the structural state of the top level.

-----

I haven't decided what else the players could scavenge from the lower levels, thinking that while the base was evacuated in a hurry, there might still be weapon and armor cache's from guard posts. Two of the players have discovered that defense systems on the 3rd floor still work and after dealing with an earth elemental they accidentally disturbed, found that two combat droids are currently sprinting at them.

I'm having a hard time fleshing out the rest of the levels with what they may house and contain. Any thoughts and suggestions on the matter would be most appreciated. I also need to figure out a good level to place a group of cryogenic stasis chambers, as I'm receiving a new player playing the lone surviving amnesiac N.E.M.A. Soldier stationed at the facility.

As far as the book is concerned I'm thinking the facility was built around an old excavation site, where a tomb made of obsidian and other unearthly materials was discovered. The N.E.M.A scientists managed to break into the first seal, where they recovered the book and other items but hadn't shattered the second seal, which supposedly contained a powerful entity. When the apocalypse went down, strange happenings occurred and the facility had to be evacuated. The facility didn't entirely revolve around this tomb, I've been thinking they also managed different research goals and teams, with some of the second level show casing a large room devoted to what looks to be long dead plants, possibly genetically altered. So, any ideas on other strangeness is welcomed!

Thanks, and I'm sorry I basically threw everything out there. I'm running short on time, so I'll be back to clarify anything and answer questions.

Take care!

- Joseph.

How levels remain unexplored?

The explorers could somehow activate some undead or some monster(s) with their lights or even movement.

Perhaps there are a lot of knee-high eggs ready to pop out some nasties.

Most of Levels 4 and deeper remain unexplored. Levels 2 and 3 remain mostly unexplored. I'm trying to decide where I should put a "commons" room, or whatever the large break room is called. A long with a cafeteria.

Thanks for the reply.

Yep all that stuff including the administrative offices and facilities would probably be near the top, also some barracks maybe.

Ask the players what would be there. Take what they say then twist it so what they say isn't quite true, based on the secret stuff you know.
