Gms and Google Wave

Unread post by vsper »

Hey folks
I have been using google wave for a few weeks now. Recently had a few friends of mine who are GM's using it too. We have been sharing stuff between our games. We have been creating NPC's, locations and such and sharing them. Since all of us are busy it have save us a lot of time.

One of us has started using it at the gaming table. All the players have laptops so it is a easy way to share info keep track of adventures and what the players know.

They have add ins of dice rollers and something being designed for battle maps though I admit I haven't tried it yet

Is anyone else using it yet? Got any good ideas?

It has been recommended to me, and I have been given an invitation. I haven't started an account yet, but I am interested. I understand that many people recommend it as a good gaming tool, but my problem thus far (aside from time constraints) is that of the dozen or so recommendations I have read, none have been clear as to why it is useful. Maybe I'll just have to see it for myself. Vsper, would it be okay if we were to lurk and observe the next time you use Google Wave?

I don't actually use it at the gaming table. In truth recently, I don't have an active game running. Work has been to busy for me to have a regular game. I am hoping to have a game going sometime early in the new year. I haven't actively used it at the gaming table. The person I know who does told me that he likes it because it has a die roller. So players will make die rolls there and they will be recorded he can add notes. so when he is doing xp he can go back and review what happened. An example would be (using a online diceroller)

1d20: 14 - bob attacks
1d20: 20 -Skelebot dodge
3d6+2: 10 - damage to skelebot from bob

Stuff in italics is stuff I commented. So later I can go back and literally review combat. There is even a history slider so I can replay the combat.

I see. It's useful as both a virtual tabletop for gamers in different locations and as a tool at a physical tabletop. I'm all for streamlining, so I have no problem with one tool serving multiple functions.

Could Google Wave be affective for playing games when the players aren't present all at the same time. I'm wondering if it is better suited for pbem & pbp styles of gaming or as a chat application.

Aparently there are free add ons that allow audio and visual conferencing and you when you are editing a wave you can see someone else typing so yes U think it would work well for remote gaming
