How about silver Gol-Limbs that shoot blasts of water?

There is certainly precedent for such things. The Seduced Technowizard O.C.C. from Rifter #2 comes immediately to mind.

I am concerned. There are already means for replacing missing limbs and organs magically, such as Ley Line Regeneration from Siege on Tolkeen Book #1. What is bothersome to me about this system is that the replacements are better than the originals. Other than a period of adjustment, there is no reason for a spellcaster to not start hacking off her own limbs. When you remove one of the shortcomings inherent to the magic system, magic gets that much more attractive. Magic already greatly outpaces technology at the higher ends (by which I mean 15th level characters, large monsters, godlings and such). I'm hard pressed to think of a reason why anyone would go the technology route rather than being a spellslinger or techno-wizard. By using the Gol-limbs, magic also makes a better partial-conversion borg.

It's a valid concept, but I feel that it needs work. I voted, "Meh."

Well, I like the concept and I don't think that magic users are going to start hacking off limbs willy nilly if you make sure it's a rare ritual that very few mages know and as the PPE requirement is high enough to deter low level characters.

However I will point out that there are other ways to replace limbs for magic users.

Firstly, I don't think that bio-systems do have any draw back to PPE or spell casting.

Secondly, bio-wizards can attach limbs which are better than the original and do not reduce spell casting or PPE. Of course dealing with bio-wizards is expensive and comes with it's own dangers.
