Specific Minion?

The shifter's Summoning ability (a.k.a Whistle Up Dimensional Lackey) supposedly works like the Summon Greater Familiar spell. That's mildly useful, but I was wondering if someone can target a specific critter, or does he just have to subject himself the the GM rolling on the random table in the Megaversal Builder book?

it's assumed you can choose to summon something in particular if you like, athough the GM retains final call.

You follow the rules set out in the summoning power, which were taken from the Summoner OCC.

random NS 'with in' a type or a "named" indevidual SN

How do you define a type? Does it have to be as generic as Deevil, or can it be as specific as "A Gorgon"?
Also, as long as I stick to "lesser" SN critters, do I HAVE to summon evil beings? I've been looking through the bestiaries, and it seems to me there is a dearth of Selfish/Good SN beings. Almost as if they designers wanted to force a summoner/shifter to associate with evil beings.

The summoner needs some type of idea about what he wants. so the type 'size' is based on what the summoner knows. And the more they know the more specific they can be. So lower level summoners will get more randomizing effect in their summons then hire level ones.

I'm not 100% clear on how specific the summoning rules are as written, but I've always let them call up an given race of demon they know of, and with a common name, can call a willing demon to it (which of course is rare).

Both are valid. you can ask for a Deevil, or a specific type of deevil, depending on how picky you are.

You can summon one of the good beings, yes.

Game need more non-evil SN critters.

Amen to that, but at the same time it's counter productive, since they're enslaveing the non-evil critter, so good characters still stand on morally grey ground at best. I'd like to see a chunck of supernatural, summonable animals, that could be summoned with less of a moral impact (using an oxen as a minion is less objectionable then say, a wing tip or waternix or even a Deevil (which after all are intellegent even if their having a soul or emotions may be in a grey area from a mortal presepctive).

Yeah, according to their description, elementals HATE being summoned, unless it's a warlock doing it. So which is more evil, summoning an evil critter who'd used to being bullied into servitude (and consequently, unless the summoner is a real SOB the demon is getting better treatment than he does at home), or summoning a non-evil monster who is more distressed?

At the same time though, I could see a Summoner using communication circles or Summoning Circles, forgoing any battle of wills and using them to send calls for help to good supernatural beings.
