Carl Macek – Dies of heartattack

Carl Macek — 1951-2010.
In case you haven’t heard yet, Carl Macek, the mastermind behind Robotech®, died of a heart attack this past Saturday, April 17, 2010.
Carl was one of those polarizing personalities who fans, especially Robotech® fans, either loved (even deified) or disliked.
He was certainly a character, and a man with a vision. He was one of the early pioneers to bring Japanese anime to the rest of the world. In addition to taking three unrelated anime series and rewriting, editing and dubbing them into the ever popular Robotech® TV series, he created Robotech® II: The Sentinels® that never quite got off the ground, and marketed and distributed Akira to theaters throughout the USA and Canada, as well as in digital mediums. He also brokered the largest sale of Akira original artwork and animation cels.
Carl Macek was creative and driven. He gave us Robotech® -- one of the first "cartoons" to have an adult theme, when the Western World knew very little about anime.
Carl Macek will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family and to his friends at Harmony Gold.
More than ever, it is left to all of us to keep Robotech® alive.
Sincerely,
Kevin Siembieda
