Psi-swords and strength

Unread post by jtjr26 »

Does a character with say a supernatural strength of 25 and the ability to use a Psi-Sword get the +10 to damage added to the damage of a psi-sword. For example would a level 6 character psi-sword do 6d6 damage or 6d6 +10 damage?

For some reason Supernatural strength and weapons is a bit of a snarl, but if your question is whether strength-based damage adds to Psi-Swords, then the answer is yes, though generated by the mind they are a solid physical object while they exist.
As far as what damage they add, depending on the book and world the answer can be muddy. I would say, at least on SDC, worlds the stacking of Supernatural strength with weapon damage would be the damage they do on a punch plus the weapon damage, and enforce the optional rule of destroying the weapon if the damage is much more than it can handle (which wouldn't apply to indestructible weapons, psi-swords, and specially reinforced materials). On MDC worlds I would say the same, though that is less supported in print (outside of NPC write-ups), except of course for weapons that don't have a real physical component like plasma blades and magical flame swords.

between SN damage and Psi-Sword damage...
canon: you use one or the other.
The easy way: add the damage die together.

However, remember the PS bonus listed on the attribute bonus table only does Normal Damage. (which is what you seam to be asking about)
So if the char only has a SNPS of 25 (or even a normal ps of 25) the damage bonus still only does 10 ND. To get the damage bonus to do MD the char would need a PS score of 115+, or if using RUE a score of 65+.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.
Each question should be give the canon answer 1st, then you can proclaim your house rules.

I say that while the construct is composed of pure psychic energy, and while psychic energy is normally incorporeal, in Palladium sometimes energies from one of the 'Three Realms' (Psionic, Magic, Physical) crosses over into one of the other realms...and in those rare cases where it does, the new construct has to follow the rules of the 'Realm' that is in (unless stated otherwise in description).

Your Psi-Sword occupies physical space, therefore -unless someone has specific, canon info to the contrary -I'd say that any PS bonus that you'd normally apply to a physical object, applies to this construct.

It would not be logical to have an object in one's hands that takes up solid space, which a stronger character couldn't get more extra physical damage out of than a weaker person could wielding the same weapon -apart from its base psionic damage that can't be altered regardless of construct shape or size, of course.

(Now please don't ask me any questions about whether or not you can break a Psi-Sword by deliberately targeting it. :frust:  )

Psi-Sword ignore any Strength type for damage. Always has. Its a Energy sword. The energy is doing the damage, not the strength of the character.

6d6 md Psi sword does 6d6 md that it.

Rune Swords/TW Swords/Vibro-Swords Add in Supernatural PS damage. Not PS Bonus damage.
a Rune Sword doing 4d6 in the hands of someone with SN-PS that inflicts 2d6 punchs is inflicting 6d6 md with the rune sword. Note no PS damage bonus is ever added to MD attacks ever...

Later on i believe the rules was changed to Just the Weapon Damage or Supernatural Damage for Runeweapons, etc...whichever is greater. To me that sucksass because if the PS damage is greater you may as well be hitting them with a punch. I Ignore that rule change as should everyone else. makes no sense to me.

Back to Psi-Swords. Energy is Energy. Strength does not matter.
I would add the fencing +1d6 to Psi-Sword, because its skill with a blade and not strength that adds the extra damage. Kinda like dragging the blade across them for just a little extra cut.

Except that the Psi-Sword is a physical object that can parry blows, trip/hook opponents, and you can even swing on it.
So yes, strength applies to swinging it, in as much as it would apply to any other physical melee weapon.
Though once again, while a SD bonus would add to them, an SD bonus means nothing in an MD world against an MDC opponent.
You're looking at plasma blades and magical flame swords if you want an energy melee weapon with no physical component that gets no strength bonus and can't parry or interact with matter outside of burning across it.

I won't, but you can target non-invulnerable
weapons this way-depends on M.D.C/S.D.C.

What about Psi-Swords that are in a device, or a Rune weapon? Look at the Gizmoteer of South Am. Also
Rune weapons can be instilled with the Psi-Sword ability. BoM-Rune weapons.
