could you steal the power of a god or from a god

I had a group that tryed to capture and god and then used mind transfer cystrals in wormwood to transfer their mind to the gods body.

I invented a Spell-Absorb Body/Mind/Spirit, could be a Chi spell, & then apply it to a Rune
weapon. it was about 14th level, made a more advanced spell, Absorb Body/Mind/Spirit Gestalt-
Spell of legend. Of course, there's a spell of legend thats worse-Soul Leech, which is a Shifter
spell in Rifter (sorry bout the pun) 14 or 15. Usually I liked the spells I invented as the Soul
Leech spell you had to be EVIL to do-& if ya weren't you'd be afterwards......Soul Leech caused
alot of problems during its casting, & cost Alot of P.P.E.-20,000 over a 10 day period.

Thraxus is rumored to have done s he is believed to have once been a "mere mortal" who fought and stole his way to immortality (see Dimension Book Two: Phase World).

Alternatively, you could presumably permanently "body-jack" the fleshy shell of another God/Godling/Demigod who abandoned his body for whatever reason.

The question then becomes: do any or all of the God's powers stay with the flesh while he is off in the Astral Plane or wherever, OR do they follow the God's Astral Form, OR do both God-Body as well as the God's Astral Form split the difference?

You could definately not steal any of the deific powers.
