There once was a man from Nantucket...?
Seriously though, very few of my players have ever played Bards, though there was one lady I gamed with a while back... didn't make a Bard but her character had the Sing skill. Always had a penchant for Greensleeves whenever she went into the taverns
And she was a damn good singer for real too.

This is a great song fromThe Bard's Tale the lyrics may be a little off, but it is close
Beer, Beer, Beer
Beer, Beer, Beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer
A long time ago way back in history
When all there was to drink, was nothing but cups of tea.
Along came a man by the name of Charlie Mopps,
He gave us all a brand new drink and he made it out of hops.
Hey!
He must have been an admiral, or a sultan, or a king.
And to his praises we shall always sing.
Look at what he's done for us, he's filled us up with cheer.
Lord Bless Charlies Mopps the man who gave us
Beer, Beer, Beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer
The Drunken Rat, the Aiken Drum, the Trowles Pub as well,
One thing you can be sure of, it's Charlies' beer they sell
So all ye lads and lasses at eleven o'clock ye stop.
For five short seconds, remember Charlies Mopps.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five...
A barrel of malt, a bushel of hops, you stir it around with a stick.
The kind of lubrication to make your engines tick.
forty pints of wallop a day will keep away the quacks.
Its only eight pence hapenny, and one and six in tax.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five...
Hey!
He must have been an admiral, or a sultan, or a king.
And to his praises we shall always sing.
Look at what he's done for us, he's filled us up with cheer.
Lord Bless Charlies Mopps the man who gave us
Beer, Beer, Beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer.
The Lord bless Charlie Mopps!

There once was a man from Gwosham,
Who took out his bollocks to wash 'em,
His wife said "Jack,"
"If you don't put 'em back,"
"I'll sit on the buggers and squash 'em!"
Mary had a litttle lamb,
She tied it to a pylon,
3000 volts went up its ass,
and turned its wool to nylon.
Sorry I have totally thread jacked a serious post. Apologies (still posted though)

I like to take songs from the Pogues and the Dubliners and change the names of people and places to fit the setting. Tends to get some good reactions, especially if I happen to have the albumwith the song on hand.

I recently had a Bard as the players guide in an unknown area. He put them all on the spot in the bar. He started a drinking song and in the song he forced any new people to pick up the verse when he tossed them the line to follow. If they failed to make the song continue with a ryhm they was called upon to buy the whole bar a round. This really entertained the group and they had a blast passing the song to each unprepaired player.

How about "The Bards Song" by Blind Guardian. It's the best bard song. Use it all the time when we are playing.
