Favorite or most effective Foil

Unread post by St. Evil »

To date the best foil in one of my campaigns was a cobbler goblin. I gave my players clues, and chances to figure it out(a mystic spider shot a beam @ a rat running away ect.), and for months in real time, the players could not figure out how the "Ogre Invasion" baddies were always one step ahead of the group. @ one point one of the characters said, "The last two adventures it seems we are only reacting to trap after trap." When in reality having a shape shifting spy, who did not like the group, from the very first adventure, was feeding all the intel to make the characters play outside their comfort zone. Its to bad he died because this one foil put the group in so many tpk situations that had it not been for the 6th sense power it would be over with for them.
One last note I was trying to teach the players that you do not need a munchkin to be effective, how ever this was lost on the players. :(

Favorite? A player in my HU2 campaign (who actually posts on here occasionally). He managed to play a deep-cover S.C.R.E.T. agent for a year and a half of real time without the group catching on. When the hammer fell on the "vigilante" group and his character flipped and started trying to apprehend them, the look on the other players' faces was priceless.

This thread if it lasts could have some good ideas.

I still haven't foiled my players. Maybe someday I will give them some tin though.
