What a wild week
Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms™ got finished and sent to the printer. That was a wild ride all by itself. I was so focused on writing and stressed about other things going on that I had written way too much material for the book. Somehow I thought I still needed to write a hundred manuscript pages for it. I was tooling along at a fever pitch when I discovered I had written 100+ pages MORE than we could fit into Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms™.
Ultimately, that's good news, because now Rifts® Vampires Sourcebook™ is half done, and Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms™ is just plain awesome, if I do say so myself. Everyone who has seen it uses adjectives like wow, great and fantastic to describe it. I’m very pleased with it, I just wish it didn’t have to be written in a maelstrom of other pressing matters.
- Wednesday the drop dead deadline to have even a hundred POD copies of Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms™ for Gen Con. That meant very long days the last week. All the while I’m writing well over what we could fit in the book without realizing it. The curse of lack of sleep and high stress.
- The Rifter #55 arrived and we had to sort, repackage and ship ‘em.
- I had to continue to coordinate work on Lemuria and other projects, which included a meeting with artist Chuck Walton.
- Then there was the day to day business stuff to be dealt with, paying bills, responding to emails, writing the Weekly Update, some tax stuff and other things.
- I hired Matthew Clements as staff writer on Monday – that was a good thing.
- Had to do more prep work for Gen Con (design display materials with Wayne, make arrangements with volunteers, etc.), as time runs out on that front too.
- And worry about Alex. Poor Alex, after 8 hours in the ER he was hospitalized. I was with him. Then I had to contact his family and explain what happened, and repeat it to other friends and family, and make sure Alex was okay, and coordinate his release. Good news on that front, Alex is doing much better, is out of the hospital and back at work.
And those are just the highlights of my most recent crazy week. Hey, all in all, things worked out pretty well. We finished one book, we’re working on three others, Alex’s crisis has passed, the Rifter #55 shipped, and we’re excited about Gen Con Indy. There’s still a bunch ‘o stuff we have to do before we leave, but we’re feeling good about what we’ve accomplished.
Tomorrow I drive to the printer to approve the proof for Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms™, do some running around and make more preparations for Gen Con.
Check out the latest Weekly Update going up later tonight for more info, other details, book descriptions and other good stuff. Think I’m knocking off around 8:00 tonight, doing some laundry and collapsing.
Oh yeah, you NEED Vampire Kingdoms, so send in those pre-orders so you get the book as soon as you can. Keep those imaginations burning bright.
Sincerely,
Kevin Siembieda
