Due tot he vagaries of life my gaming group has disintegrated. All that is left is me and my wife and our friend who is in the Navy and gone like 6 months out of the year. It has been fun but apprently the gods have said its time for a sabbatical. So thats the end of the regular gaming group. We lasted almost two decades overall. At our height we had over a dozen members. But thigns had been sliding as people grew up, got jobs, and moved away. Relationships formed, relationships unformed. But as they say all good thigns must come to and end. And this is it.

Go get more gamers. Put an add in the paper and go over to the Stormwatch forums to do play by posts.

I honestly question the philosophy behind this angst. I mean, I apply this questioning to a choir group that someone I know of is in as well, as that group is coming apart too.

Really, it seems like 'oh, we stayed together, that's the only important thing - not whether we got anything done together'.

Did you accomplish a goal together? Or was the only important thing to stick together, as if that's somehow not only the only important thing, but only important if you do it forever?

Or, if it was about the social aspect first and foremost, well...so what about 'gaming' and 'gaming groups'?

To be honest is is not so much the loss of gaming. Gaming is irrelevant. Its just an excuse to get together and hang out wth my friends, so in many ways the loss of the group is more hurtful about the loss of the friendships rather thant he gaming. I mean we didn't go out drinking and whoring and being stupid we hung out ad played our games and that was pretty much that. And as for goign out and getting a new gming group they would have tobecome friends before being gamers as liek I sadi gaming is not the priority and we do have friends who do not game. I mean we live in a rather rural area. The nearest gamign store is an hours drive in any direction at least. Its not like there are a lot of gaming groups in our area. And online gaming has never appealed to me in the slightest and I tried PBEM, PBP, MMORG. Its all boring and bleah as the social interaction just isnt the same. So anyhow I was just sying goodbye. Loggign out for the last time from the various gaming group pages/forums I was active on. At least you guys where the only ones who where polite enough to say somethign halfway polite/nice. On the D&D one it was pretty much "can I have your books?" vultures. Well anyhow have fun but always alway remember toappreciate your friends for the people and real world fun and not for the gaming.

I agree with Jedi078. I've gained a slew of friends via gaming over the years. You just have to be open to gaming with new people. But, hey, if you'd rather not bother it's certainly your prerogative.

While you shouldnt give it up completly. it never hurts to take a break a step back for a few to refresh your mind. that way it becomes more fun agian, rathar then work trying to keep it all together.

Given the advancements in technology, why don't you look into playing via some kind of voice-chat?

We've done that w/ a couple of players (individually, as Skype wasn't yet in existance except I think as a VoIP phone-replacement) back in the early 2000's.

Then it's not as inpersonal as a PBP could be, but you would be able to connect w/ folks that aren't in your immediate area.

I'll be looking into something similar after the New Year, as our gaming group has had a similar life-goes-on dissolution.

I agree with the people who say keep gaming. If it was a matter of you using gaming to hang out with friends, then I suggest you flip the script and use gaming to find new friends. Not to replace your old friends but just to continue the tradition of camaraderie. It sounds to me like that's what you're going to miss or are missing already.
I was in a similar situation about 16 years ago and started accepting new people to game with the remains of my original group. That was how I met one of my best friends to this day and the Godfather to my son (shout out to J-Dog aka Johnny Blaze! :ok:

). If it's the fellowship you're interested in, then someone needs to build a new circle. Seeing as how you're the one who voiced your feelings on the matter, I would guess that someone was you. Good luck and "Game On!"
