Dismembered Vampire Question...
In my Nightbane game tonight we took down a couple vampires.
One of them was totally dismembered by the Nightbane...the pieces were burned except for the ribcage with a stake through the heart.
The question my group and I have is...what happens if and when we pull the stake out?

Re: Dismembered Vampire Question...
Pretty simple really. In less than 15 seconds, you will have a pissed off vampire to deal with. That is why you burn both the head, and the body, in seperate fires, and then scatter the ashes. If you don't burn one, the rest can come back.

The head, legs and arms were burned already...all that is left is the chest with a stake thru it.
The way I interpret the vampires in Palladium is the 'heart' itself is actually a small part of the mother alien intelligence. So when you stake the slimer...it goes dormant.
Now without arms and legs nearby...burnt in this case. Would the un-staked torso start regrowing head and limbs or would something more weird happen?
My Cybermage insisted upon keeping the staked chest for his experiments...heck he was carrying the torso around like a baby.
In the end I guess it's up to me...I'm just curious as to how other folks would handle this situation.
I may take a John Carpenter's THE THING approach and have the alien intelligence try to scurry away when un-staked. Not having a full body to re-animate it's very much so, out of luck.

Re: Dismembered Vampire Question...
Thats just it. It will regenerate the missing parts of its body. The Alien Intelligence is not in the body (Unless you have a house rule saying vampirism is from some slug or something that replaces the heart).
Take out the stake, and the vamp will regenerate.

Worse problems than just worrying about the ribcage and the stake. You already burned the head separately, it will be reforming with a new body overnight, and the staked remains will dissolve.

Good point. I guess I was thinking if they pulled it out in the now, not that they were carrying it around with them as some sort of grizzly trophy.

Really?
So let me get this right...the burned head will somehow reform into a vampire body?
I don't have too many books with Palladium vampire rules in them....The head actually got squished to goo by a Nightbane..the goo then got scooped up and tossed into a burning house. If the books say the head will reform, then I guess that's what it says...what book if I may ask.
I had an NPC try to advise the Cybermage to burn the his undead McRib trophy, but you know those scientific types...can't resist poking their noses where they don't belong.

Rifts WB1: Vampire Kingdoms. Staked, you can fold, spindle, mutilate, dismember, and darn near anything else, but if you don't burn both the head and the body separately, you're in trouble. Skip out half-way, and the whole process is in trouble. At this stage, he either needs to burn the other half before the next 'overnight', or the vamp is back. Also, if the stake is pulled before then, it is restored right there.MurderCityDisciple wrote:Armorlord wrote:Worse problems than just worrying about the ribcage and the stake. Though, considering that he's a cybermage, if he acts quickly, he might be able to integrate it into something and, conceivably, hold up that process. No particular rules about that, but there aren't many hard-and-fast rules regarding that particular brand. Though you know he's holding onto it for just that reason, so hopefully he has something in mind.
If he wants to get clever about it, he could pull the stake out and try to get it back in before it finishes reforming.

Oh I will let my cybermage make these discoveries all on his own...hehehe.
Thank ye for your wisdom.
Now what exactly would be regenerating...the ashes in the burnt house?

Wherever the remains of the head are densest, I would imagine, so that sounds about right.

Just for advice, you should check the new updated and revised vampire kingdom, it does have new expanded details on Vampires. Amongst those new , sweet and easy toadapt to other opponents, rules for staking and decapitation...I just love those so much...

Re: Dismembered Vampire Question...
Another question on vamps....looking at my Nightbane book, they don't seem to get any additional Hit Points or anything else when they get higher levels. Is this correct?
I guess it doesn't matter though...I did juice my boss vampire.
Last night I came up with my Vampire rules...the head burnt to ash reforming bothered me too much.
The alien entity that resides in the staked ribcage will regenerate the vampire if it's unstaked..quickly...15 seconds. Now, being in a semi-dormant state while staked, it can't do anything but lay in wait. I am going to allow it to call out to it's master/maker for help.
Next session...Showdown at the Coney Oasis. The Nightbane, Cybermage and Psychic stop in for a late night snack..spent from having to root out a nest of two vamps already...they sense something fishy in the place. Imagine the famous bar scene from Near Dark reversed (vamps/human roles), but with chili-cheese fries and the hairy guy, undead and slinging coneydogs.

Re: Dismembered Vampire Question...
The best thing to do is to just expose the inert vamp to sunlight and that will destroy the vamp also.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

Fer sure...
I can't wait til the next session...there's gonna be blood, gore, chilli-cheese and psionics flying around out all over the place.
I think for game food for the night we are actually going to go get coney island.
Where we left off was 4am...long time til sun-up.
I may go by my local hobby shop and take a peek at the new Vamp book as well.

There is always the running water option also. just stake them in the running water where the sunlight will find them when the sun rises.

so what would happen if the mage
incorprated the vampires heart into a pacemaker and then put it inside of him in order to try and get the vampires powers

I remember days like this when my father took me to the forest and we ate wild blueberries. More than 20 years ago. I was just a boy of four or five. The leaves were so dark and green then. The grass smelled sweet with the spring wind...For us, there is no spring. Just the wind that smells fresh before the storm.

The largest piece should be the part that regenterates, however, any nearby pieces will attach themselves to the largest piece during the process.

I guess its up to the DM
but I'd see the mage getting some powers if it were done well
if not he gets turned into a vamp because the AI's splinter essence is still in the heart

LOL, as for the cybermage using the vamp heart in himself...
Here is what I would do ... The Cybermage implants it. Feels great, more alive than ever. His skin starts to go pale quickly, his body temp drops. Fangs appear in his mouth, his eyes turn red. Thats the First 15 seconds. Over the next 15 seconds, his face and body warps painfully into the vampire. The cybermage dies as the vampire uses his old body as a new body.

I'm going to have to see what my cybermage does with his pet vampire heart...I assure you anything foolhardy will have extreme results.
I can also see maybe the master vampire coming to look and see what happened to it's baby.

Re: Dismembered Vampire Question...
I prefer the the RIFTER #49 Vampires though. No V.I., instead they have Cursed Humans or Humans who used magic to turn themselves into Undead Vampires (nercomagic). These Vampire Lords are powerful and fearsome. They can create Master Vampires or Secondary Vampires, which are again better than the V.I. Master and Secondary versions.

Re: Dismembered Vampire Question...
Ok...here's what happened with the cybermage and the vampire ribcage.
The cybermage while engrossed in his studies was snuck up upon by it's master aka the slimey ribmaster. The slime covered old witch of a master vampire said "What are you doing with my child?" And then pulled the stake out of the ribcage and it started regenerating.
The cybermage ran screaming like a little girl...his buddies came to his rescue...there was much Nightbane on Vampire action...more next session.
