Learning Magic Later On?

Has the topic come up where a character would like to learn magic later on in their career, and if so, how have you handled it?

Curious how others have handled it, though system doesn't matter (as in Rifts, HU2, etc.).

Have the character add a magic using class. There's rules in the PFRPG High Seas book and on the Cutting Room Floor.

This in covered by the Forsaken wizard type in the Mysteries of Magic book.

A for the other PB settings, it would take the same 'in game time" to learn how to use magic as it would for a child. About half a decade.

Hmm, too strict/old school dual class. As for Mysteries of Magic, don't own it.

The published changing class canon also dictates that anyone changing class to a different type of class (defined into the categories of man at arms, adventurer, and magic) will only proceed at their new class at one third the rate as normal. In other words, needing three times as much exp. per level to get to the next level.

If you just want to hand-wave it, a god can grant the character pretty much any abilities you like.

Then the char would be ether a witch or a priest or mystic. Or the class could be a unique class based loosely on the warlock class.

Another way to look at it would be that the char would be the Granted Power cat. from HU2. Which could be used as a char "add on" mod.
