Alternative exceptional attributes

I remember seeing a table and article somewhere about differing exceptional attributes. It handled situations where if a race rolled 2D6 for a stat (let's say IQ), then 11 or 12 was considered exceptional and you rolled a bonus die. Any idea where I can find this?

It's in the PFRPG main book. I do not know what page off hand, and do not have the book on me (but I know it's in the front of the book, by the optional rules for taking hit point damage).
But the rule is, if you roll 2D6 for a stat, and you roll a 12. You get to roll ONE more D6, and add it to the roll.

And, even then the attribute score still has to be 16+ for it to get a bonus.

*Edit*
It is listed on page 14. Under the heading of 'Nonhuman characters'(it's in bold).
As for outside of PFRPG, I could not find any mention of it in the RUE or Rifts Game masters guide.
