Can the Obsidian Spell Thief teach spells from one magic type to a caster of another type? For example, could he teach a Ley Line Walker spells he had gained from Necromancy or Warlock magic?

There's no real limitation on the spells someone can learn in the Palladium system -unless, of course, that particular spell, or school of spells, is explicitly limited to this class or that.

So, yes, an Obsidian Spell Thief [O.S.T.] (I'm assuming for the sake of argument that an O.S.T. is just as much a mage as most other magic OCCs and can learn regularly) can teach a Ley Line Walker a spell that he got from a Nazca Line Magician who in turn learned it from the Lyn-Srial Cloudweaver (and even then, the Spell in question might have come from yet another "school" of Palladium Magic).

Just read the description. If its one of the spells in their known spell list, then I don't see a problem with teaching spells that can be taught. That said i wouldn't consider elemental spells to be teachable and cloud weaver spells can only be transferred by mind link as described in New West.

If you are referring to spells unravelled, you should be able to teach someone else if it can be done within the 72 hour limit, before they forget. Theis is not an easy feat.

Also don't forget that the spell "Memory Bank" is your friend when playing an OST.

And being a 6th level spell, it just scraps within their spell level limitation.

Awesome idea, as long as you have a patsy to use as your memory bank!

There is no mechanism presented for how a OST teaches his employer any knowledge. The guidelines presented in the Book of Magic state a learning time of 2 days per spell level. By that standard, the OST can never teach a spell above 6th level, to anyone! I've always hypothesized that the class must have some sort of special ability to bond with another to teach them what they know. Once they do, they forget the knowledge, or they forget it after 72 hours.

Check out Mysteries of Magic; it presents how using Mind Bond, a spell can be taught at a faster rate. I can see the Dark Covens pairing an OST with a Mind Melter if the job was specifically for stealing a high level spell.
