I was wondering just how you guys handle vehicles accelerating, especially from a dead stop (or going from half throttle to full throttle, or something similar), during combat?

Pure guesswork at the time.

There's vehicle combat rules found in HU, TMNT, and N&S. IIRC, they have something called "transient movement factor" that's meant to represent what you're looking for.

Yet another reason we need a good Rifts video game. A GOOD game, much better than Fallout 3. That would just be a starting place.
Even miniatures wont help you will acceleration.

Acceleration isn't that hard, just slap an acceleration rate onto the vehicles in question.

I usually allow a vehicle to accelerate by 1/4 of their maximum speed per round.
