Calculators for Ship Combat (Robotech / Phase World)

For what it is worth, I have cobbled together a few spread sheet calculators for a game that I am running, and wanted to share them here. They draw from the information found on the now defunct Cheethorne's Design Factory site.

This one deals with (Page 1) Speeds and Travel Times in Fold. It also has a section that auto-calculates Time Dilation for those that wish to use it. (You can modify the amount of T-D by altering the value in O38)

Page 2 deals with sensor ranges and detection. Plug in your numbers and you can determine if your character even have a chance to detect that enemy ship, and if so, what target value the operator must beat on a D100 to do so.

This calculator allows you to, in a short amount of time, hash out the skeleton of either single capital ship to entire fleet missile volleys. The cells marked X Factor are where your 'Weapons Officer' rolls their Weapons Systems roll. You can also layer your defenses by adding in Inner and Outer pickets as well as screening vessels.

You still have to, as GM, determine how many of the surviving missiles hit how many ships and where and all of that. But this will allow one to eliminate a massive amount of rolls. I have found that after two or three salvos (after determining damage and targets) that you can pretty much wrap up the battle and determine the outcome. All that is left is to flesh it out for the players leaving the end result already calculated.

Also, this is a GREAT tool for players in command of their own ships. I consider this calculator something that would be akin to simulation tests for a ships Weapons Officer and Captain, and plugging in these numbers can tell you right away if you stand a good chance of defeating an enemy vessel (or more then one) or, if you are better off running.

One final note, these charts assume that missile engagement ranges in space are greater then 550,000km, and that the speeds of these ship killing cruise missiles are such that any point defense will only get one crack at them before impact. (One crack per type, i.e. Point D Lasers to back stop anything slipping past the Counter Missile batteries. This has been factored into the calculator.)
