Rifts/Robotech

Unread post by Shimasaki »

I've been playing Palladium RPG's for quite a while and after a several year break recently began GMing again. I know in the past it was always cool to bring outside Palladium characters into the Rifts world especially with Robotech. I recently had the idea to switch that around a bit. What if Coalition soldiers were to cross from Rifts Earth into the Robotech world? Anyway I thought I'd share this idea and see if anyone else has done this, and how it may have went. Any tips?

Officially there is nothing that can be said due to Licensing agreements between HG and PB

I I did this I would have them "get rifted" to post rain of death times. These have more playability for mudders.

Can't say I've done anything of this nature, but it sounds like an intriguing idea.
The CS mooks would get along famously with the Armies of the Southern Cross, seeing as how at least a good third (especially under Anatole Leonard) of the grunts are just as Xenophobic as the CS.
If they were brought into the Shadow-Chronicles / Sentinels setting, then they would have problems.
I can just see one of the CS grunts going up to a Kabarran, calling him a stinking filthy xeno only good as a rug...and then next scene just a faint wet stain on the flooring with the Kabarran walking away, carefully cleaning his/her paws.

Yeah, you can see how much respect I have for the CS. :demon:
Maybe try with a group NOT so ignorantly psychotic & xenophobic, HMMMMMM? :D

I like the idea of the PC's coming in during the Southern Cross period.
I was thinking of maybe transitioning the players so they don't even know they shifted worlds. Many of my players are new to Rifts and haven't even seem Robotech, so I'm killing two birds with one stone here.

I was thinking the hook would be that the Masters were feeding the flower of life to the Xitixic trying to create soldiers to combat the Invid.
Eventually the PC's will fight the ASC thinking they're some kind of new empire encroaching on CS land. After some time the PC's and their equipment will dwindle down because of attrition and new characters will be freedom fighters leading into the Invid Invasion setting. Over time the PC's will come to realize they're not on their world anymore.

If you can get a first edition copy of the Rifts Conversion book one (unrevised), it was printed juust before the robotech licence expired and had notes for conversions between rifts and robotech.

future editions had this section cut.

keep in mind that section is only for use with robotech 1st edition. the new robotech game is basically 2nd edition, and does not require the suggestions in the original conversion book to be balanced in powerwith rifts.

The conversion book actually didn't do anything to update rifts/robotech power equality other than suggesting getting upgraded MDC armor or on mecha. It's mostly notes such as the flower of life's behavior on rifts earth, how characters from one would see another, and others, that are handy.
