From England under the Skathach IIRC.
It states it can destroy magic items, even the rune weapons.
In your opinion, would these cauldrons be able to handle non-magical (possibly MDC) items? Maybe even "indestructible" beings? In the case of a living being or rune weapons, what happens to the soul? Is that destroyed as well?

I'd make a random table and roll. Destroying something that exotic and powerful should be predictable.

"would these cauldrons be able to handle non-magical (possibly MDC) items?" This is something each GM needs to decide for themselves. If they can break down non-magical stuff when set to bake ( there needs to be a fire lit under it as per the text assumes happens) then SDC, MDC does not matter.
"Maybe even "indestructible" beings?" Far as I know there are only invulnerable beings as per the invulnerability power in HU. But I digress, No, the CoD only effects things that are items not beings.
"rune weapons, what happens to the soul (powering the rune item)?" This is also something a GM decides because this is left out. I've played with GM's that go both ways that the powering entity is ether set free or is changed in such a way it is not the being it was, or the entity is dispersed.
There are some opinions that once the Rune item is made the entity bound to it is "no longer" and whatever personality the Rune item has is imprinted on the (new) rune item.
My opinion is that the Cauldron of Des. only works on the physical form of the object and whatever magic is in it. Souls/entities that were powering a Rune item are just set free untouched.
