Interesting. I had decided that all the Excaliber-series Destroids (Excaliber, Shark, Raider etc) should have modular weapons/equipment hardpoints. They could also accept a thruster pack. Of course, I went OpenD6 for my stuff.

Shouldn't be too much of a problem. Figure 250 or so M.D.C. for the VLS system on the back & an extra 50 M.D.C. for each leg (for the extra hip protection), you already have the height/speed/mass listed, the tri-lasers now only have a tri-linked mode for anti-mecha usage (single mode for anti-infantry, dual-mode for anti-aircraft), & that just leaves the VLS launcher. Based on the artwork, I'd figure 6 ready missiles (volleys of 1, 2, 3 or all 6), with at least 1 (if not 2) reload sets.

Was I close?

Hey that's not bad at all. RDF Destriods lacked the mobility they needed to be effective in running gun fights. ASC hardware lacked the heavy hit they needed to take on a serious Zentraedi engagement. You've got a good blend here, and you address a noteworthy failing of the (sentinels) mecha.

And while I am not a huge fan of either the Condor or the Bioceptor, both of them do serve functional purposes really.

The what, the what and the what? :-?

The ZEB in 1E RPG was the Zentreadi Striker Battloid created by the REF. Think knock-off of the Female Power Armor, with a slimmed down look. You can find it in "Return of the Masters", revised edition. The ZEB was to be given to loyal Zentreadi, but that was before politics resulted in the ZBP-1/ZOP-2 found in the Sentinels RPG. All that remain of the ZEB are a few prototypes.

The Condor battloid is from the show (if you have the DVD extras, it's called "THE INVADER" among the Sentinels mecha). It can be seen in one of the flash back panels for Lancer concerning Carla. In the 1E RPG the mecha was overlooked, but in 2E RPG it has been included. The Mecha can also be more clearly seen in the Wildstorm "Invasion" comic mini-series.

The Bioroid Interceptor is from Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles comic mini-series that REF/UEEF Zentreadi (and per 2E RPG Tirolians) would pilot. The mecha is stated out in the 2E RPG.

Nicely done. I did the REF Excalibur as being variant capable (using the arms of the Raidar X, Gladiator and Spartan from the RPG). This was a neat idea though I think it would be more of an I-moo for me.

Pretty much. Add in the same C.A.D.S. found on the Gladius Experimental Destroid and you're done. If I get the time, I might actually stat it up.

:D Please do. :D

Uh, yea, untrue. ASC mecha (which consequently are also REF mecha) used energy weapons. The idea the mecha lacked firepower is ridiculous.

Substitute 'artillery' for 'heavy hit'.
Yes, the Southern Cross mecha lack the sheer ripple-fire awesome missile-spam of the Phalanx, Tomahawk or even the Spartan's shoulder racks, but when since these were best deployed as stand-off systems, the ASC must have figured that the requirement could be satisfied with c(more or less) conventional vehicle-mounted missiles and gun systems. Easier to produce, cheaper to replace, and easier to conceal(try hiding a walking, no arms, missile battery under a tarp).
Admittedly, if you were solo'ing, having the sort of weapons complement that looked like it was lifted off a Cold War Soviet warship gave you lots of options, but the ASC plays a more combined arms game(ideally, not off-on-ytheir-owns like the 15th seemed to indulge in).

Exactly! The ASC got more bang for its buck than either the UEF in the 1st Robotech War or the REF in the 3rd. Its at least the in-world rationale for having the ASC be the ground forces of the Expeditionary Force to Tirol.

At the expense of the 'cool duel' mecha fights where you have a single mecha dancing around spewing dakka like free credit cards. Even the Spartas doesn't manage to carry this off well, and what little we see of the ASC battloids, they're even chunkier than the Alpha Fighter.
And both Dana and Marie relied a lot more on their squad buddies than Rick or Max. There was a lot more byplay between the groundpounders and the fighter jocks, and mutual arse-covering than in Macross.

True---'Combined Arms' fleet doctrine against the Invid was wholly lacking wit the Mars Division, and in SC, it consisted of 'big ships open up with big cannons and try to bulls-eye the carriers, then it's all up to the fighters". No follow-up launch of proximity-fuzed long range heavy missiles to surge ahead of the fighters, then go flak-blast in the oncoming Invids' faces? Whittle them down as they charge up the gravity well? Come on guys, the 'vid can't dodge EVERY missile, especially if you got enough spam going.
