What sort of examples of the devices that could be made would you want to see in a Hardware char that makes Psi-tech devices?
(post you ideas please)

Please limit your posts the examples you would want to see. Not anything else.

Depends on if you mean it as more of a psi-TECH, a la technowizard, or like crystal magic a la island at the edge...

Because I want crystal magic.. which we know isn't "magic" but psionics..

-A pair of gloves or a helmet that greatly enhances the wearers Telekinesis ability.
- A scanning device with the powers of Clairvoyance and Object Read

Huh? No, and I have no idea where you got that either. I wasn't even planning on the chair being a computer, just a recording device.

I would like to see something that boosts the power of psychic attacks in a manner similar to the Spell Strength bonuses received by some magic users. The ease with which an abundance of beings save vs. psionics has always frustrated the use of many otherwise excellent psychic powers.

Edited to Add:

Such devices could either be a general boost, or designed to enhance a specific psychic power. I was thinking of the former in my original post, but something along the lines of the latter would be excellent as well.

So a device that raises the save vs Psi roll target number...*nods, then shrugs* not certain this is possible, even with the rules I've written up.

A range extender would be strait forward if for but one power.

I don't believe there are presently any rules for enhancing 'Psi Strength' in the same manner as the OCCs and items which add to 'Spell Strength', which is why I was interested in such a thing. I imagine a psi-tech device which focuses the the energy of a particular power in such a way that it is more difficult to save against. I am not familiar with the rules you have designed, but would be interested in reading them if they have been outlined in another post.

Well you have to record the data into something, and a computer seems like the most suited to handling such complex information (memories are far more than just data after all). ARCHIE-3 got much of its information from people directly plugging into it so if nothing else a mind-bond like chair does exist.

Like the chairs out of the Matrix.

It's not a mind bond chair, it's just a telepathy chair.

And you don't need a complex computer, no more than you need one for a camera. all it does is download and store memories. it dosn't have analyze or do anything other than put it on the disk.

While NS is correct, it is missing the Why would someone make something that could not be read.

There is also the posibility of using object read to read the information that was gleened.

Now kids, if you want to argue, then find another venue please.

I'm not certain what you think the problem is by this. the way to access the memories is to sit in the chair yourself and set it to download them with another mind bond effect.

basically the way it works is:

Person A sits down, gets his mind uploaded, stands up

some time later, person B sits down, has person A's mind downloaded, stand up.

the chair can store more than one persons memories and can be set to download one or all at once.

While you could say it's a computer, it's a computer in the sense your basic TV remote is a computer. basically just a series of electrical switches.

*nods* Understood. As you described....(via the rules I've written) possible but improbable due to difficulties of making it.

But (as a GM) I would restrict something like this to a plot device.

Sounds like a psi version of the evil mage "I am dying ofbold age so I will store my soul and possess some poor young whelp later".

Gets my stamp of approval for a plot device, but yeah, I wouldn't let the PCs control it.

Could see a psi kingdom ( a la Island) using this for immortality or for a way to "preserve" special people. But with the risk of it becoming sentient if it starts to collect too many...

Hook, line, sinker anyone?

Well don't forget, psyscape has an entire acadamy dedicated to making psionic devices. I wouldn't be surprised if they DO keep something similar as a way to preserve knowlage for future generations, ect.

But yes, I agree it's something on the level of a plot device. far too ripe for abuse, and unless you have mind block auto defence there's no way to avoid being strapped to it until your heads downloaded.

Psyscape would be the only place "on" Rifts earth that it would be where the type of char would be possible because it is a psychic community, with an 'academy'.

interesting choice of words... fits nicely with what da wulf said in critiquing the opening text.
