Random Question

I was just fiddling around watching the first couple Episodes of RT. And it occurred to me that Minmei's cousin Jason figures pretty prominently into the first 3 episodes and then pretty much disappears. Does anyone know why? What happens to Jason? And while we are on the topic, There are a couple of other relatives of hers that are in the first couple episodes. They actually look very much like Minmei's mother and father. They are seen in the Shelter with her aunt and uncle. Any idea who they are or what happens to them?

They may very well have died (offcamera)at some point, but lets be honest, Its not realy unusual for things like that to happen, I think mostly it was a case of them haveing so mutch time in an episode and too many characters to keep up with.

Jason no idea what happen to him. As for her parents they were in Japan, Rick flew her back to see them in ep. 15 "Homecoming."

No clue. Presumably the creators of Macross didn't think he was important enough to continue appearing. They didn't kill him off, however, and we do know his eventual fate in the original Macross universe. They never even told us his full name in the original... he was just "Yot-chan".

TheElf wrote:What happens to Jason?

According to what we've been told of the fates of the original Macross series characters, our boy Yot-chan grows up and takes over the Nyan-nyan Chinese restaurant from Minmay's aunt and uncle. He expands it into an interstellar restaurant chain, and presumably becomes very wealthy as a result. Ranka is employed at one of the chain's locations fully fifty years later in the Macross Frontier series.

Her only relatives are her parents, aunt & uncle, and cousin(s).

Only to reappear with a new actor and name in Galactica 1980.

actually i think the reference works better for the reimagined series.. the kid that was saved by Sharon in the pilot episodes, and was seen doing odd jobs in the first few episodes was Boxy.. but after a few appearance he was quickly dropped, never really seen again. he had a few scenes left on the cutting room floor, but in general he was just 'put on a bus'

The family members were simply cut because there was no need for them in the story line. So why waste time drawing them in.

As for the new boxy, I was ok with them cutting him from the show since they turned him into a juvinal deliquent in the worst way. He could have been a cool character if done better.

I thought Jason re-appears briefly watching Miriya in the game arcade 'training'. After that, he vanishes. When next we see Uncle Max, I'm presuming Jason's in school.

I do include him in my Mutantech game alternity(Heroes Unlimited+Robotech) as one of those affected by the Protoculture mutagens set loose on Earth after the Rain of Death. By the Southern Cross arc, he's an established superhero with the old UEDF/RDF's 'Alpha Initiative'.

Well, yes and no... Yoshio ("Yot-chan") wasn't actually related to the Lynn family in the original Macross. He was just some kid from the neighborhood who happened to be friendly with Minmay. Minmay's actual family consisted of just the five people who are introduced as her immediate family... her parents in Yokohama (Linn Paoshun and his wife Linn Shigeyo), her uncle and aunt (Linn Shaochin and his wife Feichun) and their son (Linn Kaifun, RT ver. "Kyle"). Obviously, Minmay's parents stop figuring into the story because they die with everyone else in Yokohama during the orbital bombardment, and her other family continue to play a minor role in the story.

Macross's creators seem to have dropped Yoshio's (RT ver. "Jason") character around episode 4 or 5... which is when they stop crediting his VA. Though, apparently, he wasn't considered very important, because he changes voice actors in the second episode for no clear reason (in Ep1 he was voiced by Yoshino Ohtori, and in Ep2-4 by Youko Ogai). Thereafter, he just sort of vanishes. The kid in "Good-bye Girl" (RT title: "Showdown") may or may not be him.
