New Online Game

Unread post by Juce734 »

So I am planning on running a bi-weekly Palladium Fantasy game on Google + video chat with 4-5 players. Anyways right now I have got interest from one person to play in it who isn't familiar with Palladium Books at all. There are two things I need a little help with though.

1) I need to give him a run down of the rules up front really. Anyone have a good short way to explain them?

2) I'd like to give him and the rest of the players a rundown of the world without going too into the details but enough that they will get a good idea about the world, races, politics, dangers, etc.

If anyone can help me with these that would be fantastic.

Are you trying to recruit right now or are you trying get help on a good way to list details of the game?
Just put the basics.......
1.start at lv4 ect.
2. No rerolls straight down the line.
3. No trolls.
4. Everyone must be diabolic.
5...........ect.

As for the world, if your using the standard world, say where on whos in control, other wise compare it to something. Its likegrey hawk but with out elves or dwarves.
Otherwise id say a 2 to 4 paragraph description should do more than fine.
We all love maps.

As of right now I am thinking of playing on Tuesday nights from 7pm eastern until 10 or 11pm. It would be a game ran on Google + Hangouts I think too. I will set up an Obsidian Portal page as well.

Haven't thought much about the rules yet except all characters start at level 1.

Two games ideas.

1) Giant Tower in Baalgor Wastelands

2) Wolfen Zombies

The video briefly touches on both games.

Greetings and Salutations. To explain the Palladium rules quickly, this is how I'd do ...

1: Your character has 8 attributes. These attributes determine your characters strengths and weaknesses. Your character also has Hit Points and S.D.C. which determine how much damage you can take, but we'll discuss that more during character creation.

2: In combat you roll a D20, to attack and defend (you have to select your defense, usually a parry or dodge). You add in any bonuses listed on your character sheet. High roll (with bonuses) wins.

3: If you want to use a skill, check if your character has it. If so, roll 2D10, also called percentile. Declare which is high (the one that'll represent that tens column). If you roll under your skill or tie it, you succeed. Roll over it, you fail.

That's the rules in a nutshell. There's more to it, but you can learn as we go. If anything else comes up, I'll tell you what to roll, but those are a lot of little rules that don't come up as often. Also, playing a Psychic or a Mage will add more rules, but I don't recommend those for beginner players. If you're really interested in one, we can discuss it more. Everything else is just role-playing.

Note: Character creation is probably the hardest part. I recommend being there and walking him through it.

Depends on how brief you really want it. If they don't mind doing a little reading, I'd recommend the Palladium Timeline (page 277-280), or at least the Timeline Summary (found on page 281 if you'd like to keep it briefer) and/or the World Overview (page 282-286, with a map on page 287). For the most part, that highlights the history and the lands of the setting, in only 1 to 3 paragraphs each section (a little longer for some). If you want shorter ... *shrugs* ... I don't think I'm known for my brevity. :P

Hope some of that helps. Thank you for your time and patience, please have a nice day. Farewell and safe journeys for now.

Ive found a quick rundown followed by actually doing is the best way
setup a small village fair where the pc's can start and do some basic combat (with wooden swords) archery, tracking, cooking and whatever other competitions you think will help them learn skills and combat.

I'd also make them be from a small remote village, then they will have a good reason to be clueless and then can learn as they go.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I've never been too good at explaining the rules without giving them too much that overwhelms them. It is a simple system though.

It will be hard to walk them thru it since it will be over the internet and they don't own the books.

The idea for the Baalgor Wastelands Tower is one I have thought about a lot recently. Maybe after I run it I will flesh it out and submit it to the Rifter or something.

You know I wish I could have. Right now Friday-Sunday is the only time I am even under the same roof as my wife and daughter until I get our home sold. I sort of saw this coming when you had asked me back then which is part of why I had to decline your game A GOD REBUILT. If you want to come and play in my game on Tuesdays you are more than welcome!!!

Still waiting on characters to be submitted for approval.

I am going to be making a video on how to create a Palladium Fantasy character using the core book only in the next few days on my channel to help one of the players who has never played Palladium Fantasy before. Maybe it can be used as a tool for you guys to share with your newer players.
