Fatigue, Running, Speed, Weight, and Starving

Unread post by Dinne »

Is it just me or is it incredibly difficult grasp these 5 concepts in a game? I am confused on how to apply these 5 concepts to my game. I know that they are needed as limiters, but I feel like it's a hurdle that I just can't clear, yet.

Currently, I have any moment over 10ft, in any direction, causes -3 to melee strike and -6 to ranged shot(whether melee range or not).

Any suggestions on what to do to help me get myself on the ball with these? Books and pages..tips.. what ever.. right now I just threw out all of these things because they were hindering me. :(

PS:I WANT to add them in (fair to the players) to add a realistic danger of being prepared before packing up and heading out of a city or camp. As always, thank all of you. :)

I belive forced march skill has some of the rules for walking huge distances, with a pack.

Speed/running are under the how to make a char area right under the graph with bonus from high stats.
Do you mean carrying weight Im supposing not the weight of the PC's??

Yes, I mean the carrying weight. It seems very tedious to dole out the weight of EVERYTHING.
I haven't been able to get all of it worked out yet to make it a smooth process.

I believe someone it mentions the effects of being starved.. like under the PSI Stalker stats, I think. It doesn't say what it takes to make someone starve. Do we just use normal rules? I guess just start throwing out negatives after a day of no food?

I'm not sure how to even use fatigue.. I believe it's something like there is an average time that players can perform at top effectiveness....after that point the receive penalties via fatigue. There is a range of things that cause this, but no standard. (Or I'm just oblivious, which is possibly)

Running seems over done or I miss something. I mean... it's like ppl can run pretty far in 3secs. If I think about this it makes me think that if someone ran 40ft or 60ft (or fast guys 100ft or maybe something higher) they would be tuckered out after that 3 seconds. Is it just me?

I dont think 3 secs of hard running is going to tucker you out. Think about marathon runners, heck your average person can jog or sprint for a couple minutes. You got to be very out of shape to be tuckered out from a 3 second run.
Pc's are the exterme edge of life. They have more sdc and hit points than even most athletes, human averages are llike9 to 12 if your pe or spd are above that your in great shape.
Look at soccer players they are running for like an hour back and forth back forth.

I'm going to see if I can find the duration for top speed in any of the books.

Hey that's great! Do you know of anything great for hunger? I think there are starvation rules somewhere. Should I put them up after like 1 day of not eating? Does that seem fair?

Spoiler:
Hunger & Starvation
The average human adult can survive without food for a number of days equal to their P.E. attribute ÷ 5 with minimal penalty. During this time the character is merely distracted by hunger and is at -1 on initiative, -10% on skills, and reduces their Speed attribute by 25%. If by the end of this period, the character has not managed to acquire sustenance, they will begin to starve to death.
Starving characters will suffer from a loss of body fat, and eventually muscle tissue as their body slowly consumes itself and their mental state continues to deteriorate. All penalties are cumulative.

Starvation Penalties (per week)
-1D4+3 to Hit Points (or M.D.C.)*
-1D4 to the M.A. attribute
-1D4 to the M.E. attribute
-1D4 to the P.S. attribute
-1D4 to the P.P. attribute
-1D4 to the P.E. attribute*
-1D4 to the P.B. attribute
-25% to the Spd. attribute
-1D6+5 pounds (2.7 to 4.9 kg) of weight*
-3 on initiative
-2 attacks/actions per melee
-3 to all combat bonuses
-2 on all saving throws
-20% on skill checks
Must Save vs. Insanity (12 or higher) or roll on the Random Insanity Table.
* If this total reaches 0, the character must make a save vs. coma & death or fall into a coma and likely perish.

Polished up from Dinosaur Swamp (or Adventures in Dinosaur Swamp?). Mechanically the same, better written and organized by yours truly. ;)

You're welcome. :)

Wow, that is amazing. I feel like this sort of material should be in the GM guide or, at least, linked to in another book. You, sir, are incredible and I am greatly appreciative. I hope that people searching on the forums will able to find this and use it as a guide. :)

The rules tend to be in the places where they're most likely to come up. For example, the rules for freezing and such are in Canada where its icey cold and the rules for heat stroke are in the new Vampire book set in the Mexican desert. While, the rules for disease and starvation are in Dinosaur Swamp.

Its a bit of a pain at first but once you familiarize yourself with the game a little you'll know where everything is in no time. In the meantime don't be afraid to ask. I'm always glad I could be of help. :ok:
