Apparently Brittany spears is the next Minmei...
's not the first time someone's done this... the South Koreans have been blasting obnoxious pop music through eleven huge speaker installations across the DMZ for the "enjoyment" of their North Korean neighbors on and off for at least a decade. All told, it supposedly works pretty well when it comes to making them back down from whatever saber-rattling they're engaged in at the time. I think the last time it made the headlines was in June 2010, after the North sank a South Korean ship, when reports of the tactic even went so far as to identify a number of artists used in the project, the best known of which being Girls' Generation.

And Jack Nicholson, was really too wide to be an iconic Joker in the first 'Batman' movie....but since when has that stopped Hollywood?
Given enough bribery, they'd so rewrite the role that they could fit some too-old B-lister into the position(though I consider Brittany to be at the list a q-lister).

However, the major part of the technical bits is the sound projection equipment. Which was featured in the show "Future Weapons" about 6-7 years ago. The choice of sounds being played is up to the operators.

Applies more often than you think, actually... and
Robotech wouldn't be a military movie like
Top Gun, it'd be (per HG's claims) a SF/action title in a similar vein to
Transformers. Recall, in the Michael Bay
Transformers movie, the principal human character was still just a high school student of indeterminate age buying his first car (so 16 or so). Spike's son Daniel, who appeared in the original animated
Transformers movie back in the 80's, was just twelve years old when he witnessed the massacre that was Megatron's sneak attack on Autobot City and was thrown headlong into mortal peril on numerous occasions (at least twice in live combat) during the whole Unicron thing. To cite another popular SF franchise for examples, Wesley Crusher was all of fifteen years old when he earned a mandatory death sentence in
Star Trek: the Next Generation, and was only sixteen when he was appointed an acting ensign and started operating as an officer. To be fair,
Star Wars indulges in this an awful lot too... Han Solo's kids were getting shot at an awful lot at the tender young age of thirteen years, never mind Qui-Gon's reckless endangerment of a ten year old throughout
Phantom Menace.

The Japanese insert a lot of teasing subtext into their manga and anime when it comes to incest, so that even characters who're quite platonic can have such overtones. One of the //Hack anime for example the way the preteen sister acts towards her brother almost comes off as sexually possessive because she's jealous of other females drawing his attention since they've been physically separated due to divorced parents so she doesn't like anyone drawing his attention from her.

This is, as far as I'm aware, true... Japan is one of numerous countries where there isn't a big taboo against a marriage between first cousins.
However... it's worth noting that, in the original
Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Linn Kaifun is not actually a blood relative of Minmay's. Exactly what the degree of separation is isn't specified, but he's only a cousin by marriage. Based on the official bio information, it's impossible to say exactly how Minmay's parents from Yokohama are related to Kaifun's parents from South Ataria Island, but their mothers aren't related and their fathers don't appear to be brothers (as Kaifun's father Linn Shaochin is 100% Chinese, while Minmay's father Linn Paoshun is half-Japanese).
For that matter, I don't recall if
Robotech ever identifies Kyle as Minmei's first cousin either... they just say "cousin" and leave it at that.

Yes Minmei kissed her cousin on the lips/mouth and not the cheek, but one is left with the impression that it was not consensual between the two as Minmei was surprised and did struggle to break the contact off. Otherwise I can't think of an instance where they kissed that would be scandalous.

This is a world of intense global civil war. The military could have dropped the age requirements for soldiers... when Rick hunter enlist the sdf 1 is in deep space and in need of pilots. He flew in a flying circus. So yes it is possible and very plusable for the military on the SDF 1 would accept younger pilots.
Rick was invited to fly with Roy F. In a veritech. So that gets him passes a bunch of guards.

Er... actually,
Robotech's official bio pages increased the ages of most of the characters by a few years, so that there wouldn't be any issues on that front. If memory serves, the only one who didn't get a few years added to their age in 2001 was Minmay, who remains 15 at the start of the series. Rick was plenty old enough to join the military (age 19) at the time, though they inadvertently made his and Kyle's interest in Minmei a bit creepy as she's a minor and Kyle's got a year on Rick.
Of course, even though the military in the original
Macross was very heavily influenced by the American armed forces, the UN Government seems to have tried to find a middle ground on the subject of the age of adulthood with the many and varied opinions on that around the world, and settled on 17. Even with Hikaru being 16 at the start of the series, it isn't a wholly unrealistic proposition that he would be allowed to enlist even without an
in extremis excuse before the age of majority. In fact, it's perfectly legal to join the armed forces while still a year underage (17) here in the US if your parents (or legal guardian) give their consent. Roy's the closest thing Hikaru has to family aboard the Macross... and he's also the one who first suggests that Hikaru should give some thought to enlisting. He was able to skip most of flight school due to having considerable flight experience already, and that shaved a lot off his training period.
Hikaru's not the only one in Macross to do so either... Macross 7's Gamlin Kizaki and Macross VF-X2's Aegis Focker did as well, though they were both legally adults long before graduating from the service academy.

Has anybody seen Ender's Game? The subject of the children's ages and war crimes came up in there. This is also a sub plot in Halo 4 with Halsey being referred to as a war criminal.
Simple fact is that if we are desperate enough we will use children and then we will hold scapegoats accountable later. Hollywood has no trouble putting children in combat situations so not sure why people think that would be an issue for the movie.

Er... I can think of a lot of ways in which that isn't true.
The first, and most obvious, being that Minmay/Minmei is a 15 year old Chinese-Japanese girl from Yokohama... Ms. Spears is, according to Wikipedia, a 31 year old white woman from Louisiana.
Robotech did not change Minmei's ethnicity the way they did to many other characters.
The second being that, contrary to almost everyone's reaction to the music in
Robotech's version, Minmei/Minmay was supposed to be an extremely capable singer (note that, in the series, she presents a letter inviting her to a second audition with a major record label, which she achieved without an agent or anything) and so beloved that she's a cultural icon even twenty years after her supposed disappearance. Granted, viewers who are fond of music (or hearing in general) might find her music obnoxious and her singing voice unpleasant, but that's the fault of the adaptation, not the story. The makers of
Robotech didn't have the time or the budget to hire a top-flight vocalist and have her record some of the most iconic and celebrated music in the industry the way the creators of
Macross did... they had to make do with what they had then and there: a voice actress who, by her own admission, has a terrible singing voice and music written on the cheap in quite a hurry.

Probably not...
But anyway... even in the
profoundly unlikely event that the
Robotech live-action movie is ever green-lit for any kind of serious pre-production work, let alone actual production, the fact remains that it's been consistently billed as being a loose Macross Saga adaptation with re-imagined aesthetics. The names of the characters being about all they can really go and use freely means they're unlikely to change Minmay/Minmei's ethnicity. They might make her 18 instead of 15, but that would be about it.

There's a fair amount of precedent I can point to that will show that, when a character has an unavoidably Asian name, they will tend to cast an Asian actor or actress in the role even in a low-budget adaptation. Even the terribad stuff like
Street Fighter does at least that much. Of course, Hollywood does usually operate on the assumption that all Asians are totally interchangeable... so it wouldn't be any surprise if they cast a Korean gal to play her instead.
(Actually, that might be the best-case scenario... if they had a half-decent budget they could probably get Jessica Jung from the band Girls Generation, meaning they'd have someone who could actually sing worth a damn and wouldn't look totally out of place in the role.)
Rappanui wrote:What are you smoking? an accurate portrayal of the original Franchise? LOL
Oh heavens no, a faithful adaptation of the material would get Warner Bros and Harmony Gold thirty-one different flavors of sued. It'll be
Robotech in name only, but they'll stick religiously to the few parts of the material they can use without having to worry about about lawyers from abroad mercilessly killing the project in court. (If the movie even gets made.)

Only if it remained completely divorced from reality... after all, knowing where the proposed live-action

Nah, this is a Hollywood treatment of
Robotech we're talking about... so if they had the budget to hire anyone who was above about Z-list we'd end up with:
- Will Wheaton (41, of Star Trek fame) as the 19 year old Rick Hunter
(Or, if Mr. Wheaton is unavailable, Adam Sandler) - Kira Clavell (of House of the Dead) as the 15 year old Linn Minmei
(Or, if Ms. Clavell is unavailable, Ming-Na Wen of Street Fighter) - Lindsey Lohan (of many police reports) as Lisa Hayes
(Or, if Ms. Lohan is in jail again, Bette Midler may be substituted) - Will Ferrell as Roy Fokker
- Halle Berry as Claudia Grant
- Andy Dick as Max Sterling
- Jack Black as Ben Dixon
- Ben Stiller as Captain Henry Gloval
- Nicholas Cage as Breetai
- Jim Carrey as Khyron
(Kanye West may be substituted if Mr. Carrey's performance is insufficiently psychotic) - Melanie Griffith as Azonia
- Rob Schneider as Dolza
(If you're the canny sort, you may have noticed that virtually everyone on this list has been nominated at least once for "Worst Actor or Actress" at the Golden Raspberry awards... quality is the last thing anyone should expect from the project, what with its writer and director having zero experience and its executive producer doing his best to flee the project entirely.)

He hasn't come right out and said that he wants no more to do with it, but he HAS basically ignored it since the project was announced back in 2007... opting to focus on pretty much every other title his production company had in its queue instead (and his own acting career). The only two other people announced to be even tangentially associated with
Robotech's proposed live-action film have either no experience in the genre or no experience period.
The signs are not good, one would say.
(Esp. since Warner Bros has been fairly blunt about having only acquired the rights to
Robotech in the hopes that they could use it to cash in on the success of Paramount's
Transformers films, and competing with
Transformers hasn't ever worked out well for
Robotech, historically.
Transformers went from its initial proposal to theatrical release in about 1/2 the time
Robotech's been waiting to get past the initial proposal phase, and, most telling of all, even the top dogs at Harmony Gold have pulled the plug on the company's announced plan to wait until the live-action movie was nearing release to resume work on
Shadow Rising so they could be cross-promoted.)

first I never said they had to be from hollywood. And while I will agree that most actor's/actress's suck compared to thier old school counter parts, I do believe there are some out there that are good. But in a industry which is going more digital with the CGI and high tech special effects, its hard to compare them to the truely greats, who had real explosive going off next to them to add to thier preformance.
And I have watched foriegn films, infact I love netflix for that reason. And I have not seen this they are so much better then US in this race to make great films. In fact the world still to this day competes with Holywood. Minus Anime. Which I find Japan to be the true masters of. But then they do not have the censor crap there, that we have here. Not to mention the political correctness we have to have in the united states, that we have to change the bio s of the characters for the whiners who think they have to be 18 to pilot a veritech.

Robotech movie. Should it actually get green-lit for production, the studio's obvious lack of commitment to it means it will almost certainly end up a direct-to-video release with a shoestring budget... ala
Starship Troopers 3: Marauder, or
G-Saviour. Exactly the sort of farcical mess that only a cast like that could do justice to.

It just seems like the robo fans are being jerked around because of HG inability to make up with big west an studio nue. Now I remember why I ditched robotech for the real macross stories.
Same here, more or less. Ever since I discovered the genuine article, I've always felt kinda bad for
Robotech fans... they're really passionate about the series, but that passion is never rewarded. Every attempt to continue the series fails, and Harmony Gold outright disowned most of the non-animated stuff that the fans grew up with. Fans of
Robotech's Masters Saga have it the worst, since Harmony Gold straight-up told them to their faces that making Masters Saga merch isn't worth it in their estimation. Palladium's about the only ones giving the fans something to be excited about anymore.
