Nightbane/Nightspoon (spelled ic)?
Is there significant difference in either printings of the main book? Major errata corrected, etc? Was looking to reacquire and wanted to know which was best to get.

Nightspawn. And They are the same book with a changed title and a find/replace.
Nightspawn was the origional name of the game and the Nightbane, but when the title was contested by lawsuit palladium changed the name rather than fight a legal battle. there is no difference, however. No errata or changes are made between them.

Thanks, wasn't sure if it was PC (palladium correct) to mention the old name or not.

Nightspawn was the original name of the setting/book, but because of McFarlin (comic books spawn creator) lawsuit the name was changed to Nightbane.
However, with all the stupidness in the RDC and NBSG I only play NS. So I can ignore the stupidness in the NB & Rifts canon about NB.

I can understand ignoring the stuff in the Rifts Dark Conversion book, but what sort of stupidness are you having issue with in the Nightbane Survival Guide?
As for the name change... I personally think it is for the better regardless of the reason for the change. Nightbane are the bane of the night (those who use the shadows to hunt humanity). The name Nightspawn suggests they are the spawn of the night and are as much a menace to humanity as any supernatural monster out there. The new name gives them a heroic appeal that is appealing... the heroic monster. True, they may be tragic heroes in a horror setting, hunted as the monsters they appear to be, but then that is when true heroes shine the brightest.

That was gonna be my next questions, besides the corebook, which books are worth getting?

Through the Glass Darkly for the extensive spell coverage and addition of some very nice specialist magic OCC as well as suggestions for magic items and areas particularly horrific things.
Between the Shadows (I think, not certain) for its expansion on psionics and additional psychic OCC like the Astral Lord.
Fair warning: I consider being called a munchkin a highly offensive slur and do report people when they err in doing so.

It's 'canon', not 'cannon'. A cannon is a big gun like on pirate ships, canon is what you mean when referring to something as being contained within one of the books such as how many dice to roll for a stat.

The parts that immply that the NB'ness is just genetics.

I also don't like the "sets of features" table.

Re: Nightbane/Nightspoon (spelled ic)?
You mean the theories that Nighbane may be an evolutionary offshoot of humanity and stuff like that? Like all the other theories of Nightbane origin, they are just that... theories made by those in the universe to explain the unexplainable. Are they true? Maybe... maybe not. It's not like the origin of the Nightbane will ever be fully explained.
Even CJ Carella's original plan for how the Nightbane come into being is unprovable... and likely to be ignored by many players. Part of the alure of the Nightbane is the mystery behind what they are. Its that clasic question so many people ask at one time or another... "Who am I? Where do I fit in this world?" If the question is ever difinitively answered it will lock all players into one specific concept... a concept that may not appeal to some (at least some will see it as doing so).
As for the sets of feature tables... are you talking about the new Nightbane Morphus tables... or the optional tables that help determine other aspects of a character. To be honest, I've seen any and all random table to be optional... mere guidelines to guide one (and to be used only if desired).

The tables in NBSG, I was specific about which book they were in, are the only ones where they are 'sets of features' tied up in one package for the last roll. It is that packaging which is out of sync with all the other feature tables that have been published.
Note: This is where you take out the books with the NB feature tables and compare them if you don't know/understand what I'm talking about. This will take some critical reading on your part if you don't see it right off the bat.

This sounds bad. How close to the DarkConversions "we're just altered humans" stuff does this step?drewkitty ~..~ wrote:The parts that immply that the NB'ness is just genetics.Razorwing wrote:what sort of stupidness are you having issue with in the Nightbane Survival Guide?
Gonna have to pick up NSG to get what you mean I suppose. Does it cause similar rollup problems as some of the ones in the Rifters did?drewkitty ~..~ wrote:Note: This is where you take out the books with the NB feature tables and compare them if you don't know/understand what I'm talking about. Re: Nightbane/Nightspoon (spelled ic)?
The "I'm MDC in my Facade" and "I regenerate in my facade" parts in the RDC are so stupid, I never had an urge to read the flavor text, so I don't know.
But now that you say it says NB are "we're just altered humans", I know another stupid thing in the RDC's NB text.
The Rifts conversion notes in the NBMB and the NB:BTS are good and simple and not stupid.

Re: Nightbane/Nightspoon (spelled ic)?
Considering that Carrella's traditional RCC is spawned from night (or heavily implied, formless ones, Nightlands, etc) and that the RDC guys seem like humans modified in reaction to 'bane' darkness, the old/new names work well for distinguishing between the old/new RCCs.
Perhaps we could view the RDC banes as Nightspawn mimickers similar to the Shadow Warlocks in Nightlands except more extensive?
