Hey guys! I'm working on an adventure right now, for Rifts, for another dimension. My only thing is I'm trying to think of a creative way to get them TO that dimension. I've used the hire a Shifter and he messes up and sends them somewhere else on accident before and I'd like to avoid that again.
How have you gotten your players to another dimension in your games?

Hu2 Analytical Specialist developed a system to move particles at light speed. Which of course opened a rift.
Vacation in Florida, a sailboat ride.....into the Bermuda triangle. Lol.
Stonehenge. The obelisks started glowing with blue energy and humming....
Walmart restroom. This one should have been the other register they had open. Two registers open at walmart causes a dimensional anomaly. Common knowledge.
Chasing a giant chicken. "Hey bo, is that Elvis? ?
Why is he like nine feet tall??"

I've just had random rifts open up and suck them in.
I've also used the "you're outnumbered, outgunned, and the only way you'll survive is to go through this rift that's opened up."
And there's the old "somebody hired the party to go through a rift and see what's on the other side."

That honestly makes sense. Keep it simple. I like it.

Maybe they could actually know where they're going and want to go there intentionally?

They are reading a book and after making some snide comment about how the hero didn't do a good job, they are summoned there car, chainsaw, boom stick and chemistry textbook and oblivious to all the changes that come, never realize that they were/are the hero in the book.

You could also go with the Zorb method, from the ABCs of Death

I like the controlled dimensional raiding idea.
Using technology, allows them to see into, catalogue and access different dimensions, being an interdemensional thief culture is how they cross paths with the pc's.

I once prefaced with, "Dimensional anomalies are heightened in today's forecast. Open doors at your own risk."
Had a lot of fun with random tables.

Transdimension Turtles has rules for creating Time/Dimension hoping vehicles.
Could just give them one that is malfunctioning or the PCs do something they shouldn't and lose control so that while they can use the device, they have no navigational control. Or the PCs simply lack the necessary skills to navigate successfully (per TD TMNT even those with an IQ of 21-25 are at -25% to the skill, any less and forget about it).
They have the technology to determine when the next opening will occur, but can't control aspects of it.
Could be a function of the method they used to travel to another dimension that they will randomly "leap" or they are in contact with "mission control" who can attempt to recall them at random intervals, but the recall function doesn't work exactly right.

Then watch their faces when after they've spent 6 months real time in tracking down their quarry, through multiple dimensions, loosing party members equipment lost or destroyed countless times, they get their reward. A truck load of severed fingers and toes from various creatures from the dimensions they've been too.

You BASTARD are you trying to kill me, after reading that I had a major coughing fit. That one needs to be put in the randomer item list. XX. You've run across what must be the bounty reward for a major criminal, there are definitely more than seven digits here. You have found a treasure trove of at least two thousand digits of assorted sizes, shapes and colors some you can identify and others are from creatures you've never seen before...
