Looking for random encounter ideas
I want to put together a random encounter table of sorts for Chaos Earth. In the default city/setting of Chicago, what are some kinds of example encounters which people could conceive of?

Re: Looking for random encounter ideas
Here's some ideas that I've had. These are basically categories with the potential for a lot more specifics under each one:
- N.E.M.A. Troops
- Military or Local Authorities
- Humans (Refugees or Looters/Gangs)
- D-Bees (Confused, Helpful, or Violent)
- Dinosaurs (old main book kind)
- Demon(s) (Chaos, Hades, Dyval, Other)
- Time or Space-Displaced S.D.C. animals
- Alien Flora (may or may not be dangerous to humans)
- Blue Line
- Blue Zone
- S.D.C. Monster(s)
- M.D.C. Monster(s) (from a published book)
- M.D.C. Monster(s) (from the old random generation table)
- Faerie Folk
- Recently slain bodies (may or may not have salvageable/usable equipment)
- Undead (Traditional, or Chaos Earth Resurrection varieties)
- Unexplained localized weather phenomenon
- An Entity or multiple Entities
- Roll twice more, and encounter both things at once.
- Roll three times, and encounter all three things at once.

Re: Looking for random encounter ideas
I'm very wary of random encounters generated via table in my games due to running very story driven scenarios... a random group of MDC d-bees might mess that all up.
I'd rather just give it a blush chance on the die if they encounter SOMETHING, and if they do, decide if its hostile or not and what it logically could be where it was found. It's not too hard to pull some streamlined monster stats out of whole cloth (sd/mdc, strike parry dodge, initiative, equipment (damage), attitude)

Re: Looking for random encounter ideas
I only roll on a random encounter table if I find it to be an appropriate time. Not every random encounter has to lead to combat, and not every random encounter happens in close range. A roll of "Demons" could just be "You spy a group of winged creatures flying in the sky (Gargoyles). It looks like their course will take them right over you. What do you do?"
