Hyper-sensitive psionic abilities (x2 dmg) via Sculpt Senses

Page 68-69 of Through the Glass Darkly speaks to my inner min-maxer. Has anyone played out the effects of a hyper-sensitive damaging psi ability?
Completely losing initiative/perception and suffering 1d6 damage for activating a psionic power are pretty harsh, but I could see still be willing to bite those in exchange for double damage.
The larger drawback would seem to be "lashes out uncontrollably" and "hitting anybody nearby". These are "and or" conditions though, so it seems like "accidentally inflicting double" could exist on its own.
I could see the LAU / HAN problems with ranged powers like pyrokinesis. But what about stuff like Psi-Sword where range prevents it from hitting anyone? LAU could still be a problem (maybe you just start forming Psi-Swords in your sleep, or when you just intend to punch someone) but HAN could seem to be something you could control by still retaining control of your limbs.
