Question: Magical Properties of Gold?
Okay, aside from the Mystic Kuzyna of Rifts Russia making gold magic items and the Kingdom of Tarnow enchanting gold and silver into megadamage metals, is gold ascribed to have any other magical properties in Palladium?
Should it have any particular magical properties aside from the mundane ability to corrupt men's minds?

Than the Sage among his Books,
For all the Empires and Kingdoms,
The Armies and Works that you hold Dear,
Are to him but the Playthings of the Moment,
To be turned over with the Flick of a Finger,
And the Turning of a Page"

Re: Question: Magical Properties of Gold?
If you go back to the Palladium Role Playing Game (fantasy 1E), then gold and silver have definite magical uses.
Wards that involve metals for the Diabolist:
Silver: color, cold, dark, evil, good, invisible, and sleep
Gold: charm, fire, light, knowledge, magic, mystic energy drain, and energy.
Circles that involve metals for the Summoner:
Silver: protection from undead (silver cross), protection from were-beasts, summon angel, summon pawn, and healing
Gold: domination/control and power matrix
I think most of that went forward into the fantasy 2E game, but I haven't looked it up to see if any of that changed.

Re: Question: Magical Properties of Gold?
Thanks! That's a very definite and useful response and something to build with!
And some crack-fluff for a reward:
"This is my magic apparel!"
"It's a gold foil slingshot swimsuit...the only thing magic about it is how the hell it stays on you.."
"No, it's magic! Watch how he can't keep his eyes off me! I charm and dominate him in this little mystic number!"
"'Little' is an understatement. 'Miniscule' is closer to the truth. 'molecular' might be more accurate."

I haven't yet had a player claim that a small sack of silver coins is actually a magic sap. "Yet"...

I'd say that since it was the sack that was making contact, THAT's the part that would determine damage type. Only Silver if it's silver on the outside, which is why Palladium has "silver-coated" weapons for fighting vampires and such.
On the other hand, it wouldn't be too hard to make weapons out of silver coins. The Wolfen coins with holes to be strung together in necklaces/etc. could make an interesting weapon with enough coins.
And come to think of it, it wouldn't be too hard to make a [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macuahuitl]Macuahuitl[/url using silver coins sharpened on one side instead of obsidian.
And I bet it'd be cheaper than buying a silver or silver-coated sword.

You know those stumps with coins driven into them that you see at some Cracker Barrels (or, at least, you did 20+ years ago)?
I figure a club spiked with silver coins like that would work fine.

Sounds like something a written word mage would put his/her wards on.
