This is how I run my Heroes Unlimited Dark setting. Behind all the villains and everything is the Nightlords. Or in instances where they are not responsible they are in conflict with them. You can also make the Minion War on HU Earth can be a three-way with the Nightlords, Deevils and Demons with regular villains being the wildcard. In a setting like this Dark Day might be the goal of the Nightlords.
If you are saying that this is our real world...the Nightlords aren't this bad and they are far more organized and competent.
