Scholarly Adventures: Session Zero

Unread post by desrocfc »

[RIFTS] GM Field Guide #13: Session Zero. So, after spending a week across the continent for work, we’re back to discussing gaming topics. Most of us know about the term “Session Zero.” I decided to put together some thoughts on what it is, and some Rifts-specific things to consider. The GM Field Guide articles target newer GMs that might be a little daunted by the Rifts library and are looking for a place to start.

Topics like housekeeping rules, adventure and character generation basics, interpersonal rules like table etiquette and boundaries, Player expectations (of each other and GM), GM expectations, and finally the always prickly topic of consent - which is really what a Session Zero boils down to, and it’s a two-way street. It comes down to mitigating friction points to allow for smooth game flow.

So what are your thoughts on Session Zero? Anything missing from the list? What show stoppers do you have at your tables? Any horror stories?

You should add 'Rifts' in front of 'GM' to make it clear which game you are talking about.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.
Each question should be give the canon answer 1st, then you can proclaim your house rules.
Reading and writing (literacy) is how people on BBS interact.
