Spell Anti-Magic Cloud

Unread post by darthauthor »

Does this spell, Anti-Magic Cloud, make a cloud as in you can't see in it?

Or is it just in name only and it is just an invisible area of effect?

Do spell casters feel anything in the Anti-Magic cloud that lets the tell it is in effect or do they just find out when they cast a spell? As in the PPE is still burned off but the spell does not go

It is right there in the description "This incredible spell creates an ominous, dark grey-brown cloud large enough to hang over an entire town"-RMB pg185, PF2E pg210, BoM pg138.

That handles the what does it look like. Now the issue of noticing they are in such a cloud, that is going to be GM's call as a case could be made either way.

Because of the description I would, as a GM, have the Cloud be a visible 'object'/effect of the spell.

Is it like a rain cloud overhanging the area of effect, or is it a like a fog-like visible effect is something the player should decide during char creation or when the character gets the spell.
If the mage char gains the spell via 'spell scroll conversion' it might be the GM's choice how the visible effects present themselves.

Because the core of making magic comes from the mage's belief that they can make magic, magic itself is incredibly subjective because it is dependent on that belief. So Magic, even if the 'magical science' of the magic is the same, will be variable from mage to mage. This also means that if a spell is passed down from mage to mage, that the learning mage will believe the spell effects of the teacher's spell are written in concrete because their spells end up the same, because they are influenced by seeing/sensing the master's spells as they are cast and take effect.

Now take that copy of a copy of a copy through 10 or more copies through two (or more lines of masters and students. The odds are that while they would have the same gross morphology and effects, there will be dissimilarities that have creeped into the spell over time because the student's belief is just slightly different from that of the teacher.

Or take the mage researching a spell they heard about by rumor. That mage might get the same spell in effects, but the personality of the mage will throw in variations into the spell.
examples of variations that don't effect the effects of a spell
--AoI spell that makes a visible set of armor....that is a color (red, green...etc...)
--A CoA spell that looks like a 'carpet' on the floor.
--A Curse of the World Bazaar That instead of tentacles, everything is clown'ish, or some other idea of horrible.
--A Call Lightning spell that the lightning is pink or yellow or fusha
