Does anyone know if they ever say what the distance between the North Eastern coast of North America to the Northern coast of Atlantis? Like at the Refuge or maybe near Azlum?

It is a little over 1000 miles from Georgia to Bermuda so I would say that it is about 1200 or so from there to the Refuge area of Atlantis.

I put Atlantis on Google Earth (Azores to Bermuda) and measured the distance...
From the most eastern point of North Carolina, the western most point of the Refuge (near Bermuda) is ~460 miles.
From Halifax, NS to Azlum is ~1300 miles.

So, depending on where you start and finish, it is quite the range.

That muddied the water....but thanks! :)

thats a pretty good reason to raid the east coast, as other major land masses would be further away.....

How do you get to Atlantis?

Practice, practice, practice

It's about this far.

When I put my Atlantis map on Google Earth as an overlay and size it to match existing features and the canon scale for the continent, I measure it as about 600 miles from the western coast of Atlantis to the eastern cost of North America.

Yeah, eyeballing it the scale looks about the same. I'm curious, did you measure from the Atlantis mainland or the western most Atlantean island? I used the island...

With Google Earth, each millimeter on the map is several miles, so each pixel matters... then again, Rifts maps aren't all that accurate, so it is all best guess... and who says cartography isn't fun?

I was very roughly measuring with a scale as reference. There are a couple of real-life islands next to Atlantis on its map that I used to place the continent as a Google Earth layer. That was years ago, and I'd have to re-do it to make a more precise measurement using Google Earth tools. How much precision do you need?

Oh, none at all. Eyeball guesswork is good enough for me :)

I use Google Maps quite a bit when GMing. Though it would be kinda neat if PB were to produce Rifts Earth, Palladium World and Wormwood KMZ files. Load that puppy up onto Google Earth, display on a large screen, and give players a feel of globetrotting between places while on campaign. I've cobbled my own for personal reference down to building polygon villages and castles/forts, adding in major ley lines, and using various pins as point markers to add a sense of relative distance for players. But when it comes to terrain, when using the Blue Marble 10000 overlay to see what coastlines would look like with a rise in sea levels of 150ft, it's a bit wonky since the underlying map goes fuzzy. I have to switch back and forth between BM10000 and the regular map to see roads and features. I'm sure a properly designed Rifts overlay could work out some of those issues. Heck, PB could weave in your amazing maps into the overlay and probably produce a pretty polished product.

Ah well, until then I'll just have to use my slapdash patchwork.

I've occasionally poked around with trying to make a global Rifts vector map I could put on Google Earth and use to build further Rifts maps that includes all the details from canon maps I can find. It's hard to do for a variety of technical reasons.
