Amaki T.W. Psi-Blade mod
With Amaki creating TW Psi-Blades that increase the power of a psi-sword i wonder if it would be possible to increase the damage more using psylite crystals, instead of whatever they use currently, as it isn't specifically stated in the description. I figure that seeing as how they are good conductors of psionic energy it might be possible to increase the damage using these.
What would be a reasonable increase in damage? I am thinking something like 4D6 instead of 2D6?
I haven't seen any other posts suggesting this but if someone knows of one that they can direct me to, that would be great.

That sounds fun. I'd say you could go two directions
Option 1: The entire blade would need to be specially treated psylite that functions as a normal sword, but when you channel the PsiBlade power through it
Option 2: A "lightsaber" hilt with a stack of psylite crystals that ignites with the PsiBlade power
Either way I think I would give it +2d6, +2 to strike, & extend the duration of the power by double &/or its cheaper to cast using it as a channel. I don't think extra dice are always the way to go, but psylite swords should definitely be better in some fashion

Re: Amaki T.W. Psi-Blade mod
Since we don't know what goes into the construction of the Amaki weapon, the base version might not even use gems (and by RAW they don't). The Amaki TW Psi-Blade is created by Gizmoteers, who are basically construct psychic "TW" devices and such. That doesn't mean a "super" version couldn't use psylite, but its effects likely would come down who designed it (Gizmoteer, yeah I could see a boost, non-Amaki TWs might require the psylite as the GEM in question to duplicate what the Gizmoteer does)
@Aermas
Option1 is out, by RAW the thing is already basically a beamsaber/lightsaber like the Wilk's Laser Sword/Knife or other TW weapons (TW Flaming Sword for example).

Re: Amaki T.W. Psi-Blade mod
The description says that it was created by Amaki techno-wizards and not Gizmoteers. This is why I thought about possibly replacing the gems with Psylite crystals.

Re: Amaki T.W. Psi-Blade mod
And the Gizmoteer RCC description states they are involved. WB9 pg157 reads "Such devices as the 'techno-wizard' psi-blades were at least partially designed by gizmoteers."
And looking at the Gizmoteers abilities, they don't mention anything about gems involved in the construction rules as it is all psionic in nature using circuitry. (Non-Gem TWdry is also possible, at least back in RMB-era given specific examples that appeared in the Main Book though that isn't the case in RUE IINM,. So it is possible that Gizmoteers input into the design process resulted in a device that doesn't need a suitable gem.

We are designing something completely new are we not? We're not bound by anything. It could be a psylite crystal sword that does 2d6 damage as a normal blade & when you activate your PsiBlade power, it stacks & gives bonusesShadowLogan wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 12:19 am @Aermas

I didn't even really think about it being something new but that is a great idea.Aermas wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 10:12 amWe are designing something completely new are we not? I read it as modifying an existing item by swapping out what ever gem/crystal the existing Psi-Blade uses for a the Psylite.Aermas wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 10:12 amWe are designing something completely new are we not? Re: Amaki T.W. Psi-Blade mod
Go for it; it isn't a game-breaker, but, as ShadowLogan sez, an upgrade of an existing device. The added cost compensates for the extra damage.

Re: Amaki T.W. Psi-Blade mod
There's also the possibility that the Amaki Psi-Blade already uses Psylite in its construction given the lack of details. This is only a possibility, but a Gizmoteer CAN make a TW-Psi-Device that can "cast" Psi-Sword power (if known to the Giz), so it stands to reason the Psi-Blade might already come with Psylite to explain its performance (though it could also be the effect of the Giz supping up the device for better performance which they can do).
