Combat Magic and the Temporal Warrior

Unread post by The_Livewire »

Ok, so I recently scored a copy of Mercenary adventures and had am amusing thought.

Temporal Warrior right off his 6/10/14 year apprenticeship enrolls in Combat mage school. What's another 2 years for a guy at that point? Plus the two year tour would be a) easier than 6 years of being a Raider's flunky and b) worth it just for the spells, forget the OCC abiities.

Pick up combat spells as they level up? Sure. Learn a few spells here and there? No problem. Go to formal Combat Mage school? Doubtful, though perhaps the 6-year apprenticed Temporal Warrior may consider it, but even then it might take twice as long to complete as they may need extended time to mentally deal with the stress of learning. A 10- or 14-year apprenticed Temporal Warrior may be so traumatized from their past training that they find committing to formal study abhorrent.

Much of the training would prove an overlap, particularly in terms of fundamentals of magic and conventional skills. Of casting OCCs Temporal Warriors would likely be one of the least likely to hold the stigma normally ascribed to Combat Magic.

Those with access to the old Manhunters book (not the Coalition book of the same name) might take a look at the Smoker, which is one of the other solid combat magic classes, which arguably has less baggage than ones such as the Battle Magus.

I didn't think of it as much different than transitioning from US Army to civilian life, or going back to college for a second Bachelors. If anything, it would make the class entertaining.

"Why aren't you freaking out? That's a Brodkill we're supposed to take out!"

"Son, take on robbing an Atlantean courier. Brodkill? *blam* Recruit stuff."
