Changes over time...
So, I'm currently working to build a spreadsheet of all the various items in the different books, so I can use it as a quick reference.
One of the more hilarious things I've come across...
In Old Timiro, Sir Larnod's Magic Shop.. Lightning Weapons are cheap. Like, ridiculously cheap.
Arrows sell for 50 and 80 gold each, javelins sell for 50-70-100-150 gold each in order of the amount of damage done
Compare that to the Cyclops entry in M&A or High Seas...
The lowest you can get for an arrow is 300, and the lowest for a javelin is 650.

How does an isle of cyclops gold piece compare to a Timiro gold piece? Is the exchange rate one for one?

Isle of Cyclops use the Western Imperial, which is the standard "1 gold piece" for books. In the Tier and exchange list, they're a Tier 1. Timiro is a Tier 2, which means the Imperials are worth double (per On Numismatry in LoB)
Which makes the price difference even more glaring.

I'm suddenly wondering if one could make a living as a merchant doing a "lightning" run between Timiro and the Empire of Sin. Bring back some illicit substances on the return trip, make it profitable both ways. Assuming one could avoid pirates around LotSW and not wreck off the Jungles.

The way I see it there are a few reasons for the price discrepancy (don't have many PF books, so more open speculation but some could be used as a campaign idea for the PCs to investigate):GoliathReturns wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 10:31 pm So, I'm currently working to build a spreadsheet of all the various items in the different books, so I can use it as a quick reference.

1. The vendor is trying to unload merchandise that has been sitting on the shelves for too long, so discount (it happens)
2. The OT vendor has sourced it via mass production where M&A/HS is more for sourced from low production sources, hence the cost difference
3. The vendor doesn't really know what he has, or thinks they are fakes/knockoffs, maybe they are fakes (IIRC it isn't like you can "test" a Lighting weapon and then re-use it), maybe they are "cursed" (or he is)
4. For some reason the OT market has Lighting Weapons dirt cheap (too much supply, not enough demand)
5. Perhaps they are discounted because of a flaw/defect that a Cyclops could spot right away, but not those less knowledgeable about production
6. Perhaps they are discounted because they are close to the end of their shelf-life (IIRC they don't have a shelf-life, so less likely)

While valid arguments, the reality is..
Stuff that was copy/paste from earlier publications, and not gone through carefully before being updated.
And, to be fair, this is a tiny little line about a merchant in a city. Not even a full writeup, just a small little blurb about the store.

Re: Changes over time...
Well, we had that exact thing happen recently in a campaign. Longbowman bought as many as the GM allowed. Of course he immediately spammed then at every adversary so he's going to be out of ammo soon, but what a glorious few sessions he had. But I can't imagine that those arrows ar merely sitting on the shelf. At a minimum the OT soldiers would scoop them up.
It's as GA says. One writer put that in and another was unaware and wrote up a different price. The editor did not catch it and we have the opportunity to discuss it.

"There should be more specialty arrows."

I do lot of specialty srrows homebrew.
I'm just waiting to see what all is found in the other books.
When my players end up in Old Timiro (it's in the plan), the prices will definitely not be that low. My current group of sociopaths would buy every single one available, and probably use them to try to blow up a target.

I agree it's likely a Writer/Editing Error, but that doesn't mean a GM can't come up with an in-universe explanation(s).
