is it possible to use the new mutant animal set ups with the old mutant rules, and exactly how do those rules work? (all i have is HU revised, and the section on mutant animals is pathetic.)

i've been wanting to use Todd's mesozoic land rifter article, (altered for non-AtB use.), but its the new format.

or should i just get the new AtB book?

You could use them together, though it may not be a totally smooth blend. AtB2 offers a wider choice of animal powers than the old rules, as well as the ability to take vestigial traits that give BIO-E rebates. Also many animals had their base BIO-E and other animal stats changed from the old TMNT/HU rules.

How those rules work is fairly simple. Each animal starts with certain base values, which you pay BIO-E points to increase, or reduce to get more BIO-E points.

As to just using HU Revised and Mesozoicland together, most of the powers listed in dinosaur descriptions are self-explanatory or are actually described in the article. Other powers should be listed in HU, except for a few that are new to AtB2 (e.g. the various flight and leaping powers).

I'd recommend picking up the new ATB book at some point. You can still use the 2nd ed dino templates with HU rev, but in my opinion, you'll get more mileage out of them with Erick's excellent ATB2. Even if you don't use the setting, it's a great resource for using mutant animals in HU.
