not a chance with the way things are at the moment, too many big players in the grand chess game that is Rifts Earth. I think though, if Zazshan bided his time and waited for some of the larger nations/individuals to duke it out, he could capitalize while the dust settled. I spose the immediate problem that blocks his plans of world domination is the London Splugorth colony. Zaz and Slynn have a past and it wouldn't take a genius to figure out who came on top. Perhaps if Camelot could convince the other nations of Britain to get rid of the Splugorth menace, he could then use Arth'uu to rally the people of Britain and begin the slow road to conquest.
I think Zazshan could conceivably take the Uk and some of the Europena continent, but it would take decades of intriging.
World domination is just to lofty a goal for this small time player. IMHO.

I tend to agree with Matt, I also think that he plans on taking over in the LONG view. Remember, he's going to have the king marry his Guinevere, and I'm sure he'll find some way to have a child born that he's in control of, one that will one day itself become king. Letting him manipulate the kingdom directly as well as through his influence. I wouldnt' even be suprised if he discredited part of his own forces or something so there could be Nazi style crack downs etc and consolidation of power and building of the army so that they ARE more of a military threat.

Would explain why his Nexus Knights act the way they do, yes...

chances of being a major power? short term, minimal.
long term (hundred years plus...) very likely if the truth remains secret.
i agree with Daniel Stoker that Zazshan will figure out some way to get one of its own splinter personalities "born" to Guinevere, so given enough time it will have the throne directly in its power, which is the real stumbling block to becoming the kind of empire it wants. as long as a mortal is on the throne, the humans have a decent chance of changing the kings mind and getting Zazshan trapped back in limbo.
(anyone ever notice the implied version of the original camelot ledgends?
it turns arthur and his nights into a despot and his minions, and mordred, lancelot, (and Morgan Le Fey, though she's never mentioned) into the good guys trying to save england.
weird.)

Unless he's letting them be that way so that he can eventually have a crack down on them and look like a hero. Plans within plans.

Unlikely, but definitely possible.
As has been mentioned before, this alien intelligence is crafty and prefers (at least for the time being) to operate via manipulation rather than outright combat. It appears he's securing his hold on the power of Camelot with long-range goals in mind, and he wouldn't have to unite other countries under Camelot rule to accomplish them (though it would be easier).
With Camelot, all he has to do is keep 'recycling' essence fragments from one form to the next, giving the appearance of rulers being born, marrying (other essence fragments), siring children, and dying. Lather, rinse, repeat. Even if one or two of his fragments fall out of favor (and are removed from power) he still has others the people look to and so he can start again.
It all depends on how patient he is and how well he can keep his multiple identities (as well as his plans within plans) a relative secret.

The endless singing, dancing, drinking, and eating of spam starts to rub off on your sanity after a while...
AHEM.
But seriously, no, I don't think Zazshan will get very far. The powerlevel of Rifts has increased significantly since Zazshan's appearance, making it increasingly likely that New Camelot's evil behind-the-scenes leader will be discovered and ousted relatively easily.
now now, Zeberus, you know perfectly well that when that book comes out England will have for some strange reason 5 times the level of technology it had before, with more powerful magic and some weird talismen or happening making myrlynn 3* as powerful as he was before.
I mean, take a look at the jump Tolkeen made when KS got around to mentioning it.

True... Zashan might have 3.5 million nexus knights hidden under the Thames...
Yeah, but then there'll bee a New German Republic War Machine book that will make the NGR's standard mecha catalogue book look like child's play.
sadly. . .your right.
then there will be a huge conflict where both sides will fight like idiots considering their capabilites, with massive casualties that no reasonable commander would keep attacking with.
then the NGR will win in the end by writers fiat.
heres to hoping that for once, history DOSN'T repeat itself.

Maybe... or
All the Robots will be the same but painted black and done by a different artist, have another 300 MDC and an extra 2 attacks a round but all the guns still do 1d6x10 even on the devestator.
&
Myrlynn has a new kind of Nexus Knight that has all the powers of a Mega-Juicer and a Temporal Wizard but cannot wear armor, is allergic to Techno Wizardry and are not designed as a player character except a few that have somehow become self aware and rebelled against their master to fight the good fight yadda yadda yadda.

In a blatant attempt to lighten the mood here (as well as hijack the thread momentarily -- why? Because it's FUN), I saw on CNN's website that 'Spamalot,' a Broadway musical "lovingly ripped off from the film
Monty Python And The Holy Grail," had cast Tim Curry as King Arthur, David Hyde Pierce as Sir Robin, and Hank Azaria as Sir Launcelot.
And there was much rejoicing...
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go back to pushing the pram a lot.

As stated...CS has a better chance than him.
He just doesn't have the presense to be a world leader. Not like splynn or Prosek. I don't think given 1000 years he'd have any more than the british isles under his control.
Dispite his "quiet and crafty ways" there are far more beings out there who are far more quiet and craftier than him.

Zerebus wrote:Which brings us back to the prophecized dangers from the Mechanoids sourcebook. It seems unlikely now that Mrrlyn is in fact one of those dangers, regardless of how he may have been written. I have long felt that he was in fact made too obvious of a choice for the third great danger on purpose, because the real third danger was far better at hiding amongst heroes...
Two words...
Erin Tarn.
You've been warned.

Well, I'm surprised that it took us three pages before getting to it. We must be improving.
But if you want to see what I've been up to for the last few weekends, you can check out
www.lisalamb.com and scroll down to the Monty Python section... It was quite a lot of fun, and we (all the 'knights' as well as I, the king) have been offered some employment doing what we thought was just fun! Who said there's no money in costuming?
