Base book O.C.C.'s/R.C.C.'s
1)How do you people feel about the base book Character Classes?
2)Are they still worth it to you? 3)Are they obsolete? 4)Are there any that you used to like/love that you no longer care for? 5)Are they underpowered compared to more recent Book Classes? Please do not forget that some have been "updated" in recent books-PsiStalker,Mind Melter, Shifter... Please give your reasons for your answers. I'll post my own answers later. (Hint:I play a Headhunter )

I like them, though I love the diversity of the other books... not just being tied to the OCCs/ RCCs in the main book is great. Still, the Ice Dragon Hatchling will always be my fave thing to play...
Eyes without life, maggot-ridden corpses, mountains of skulls... these are a few of my favourite things.
I am the first angel, loved once above all others...
Light a man a fire, and he's warm for a day; light a man on fire, and he's warm for the rest of his life.
Turning the other cheek just gets you slapped harder.
The Smiling Bandit (Strikes Again!! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!)

1) Fine - I like 'em as a starting point
2) Yes...Wilderness Scout and Operator are fun, as are Dog Boys and Dragons...
3) No, although with all that is out there for the assorted OCCs can be easily modified to additional skills and additional skills options (ie: some of the new skill groups).
4) No
5) Some are, some are not...the CS OCCs are "underpowered" compared to the OCCs published in the Coalition Wars book, but are also easily modified. The non-Coalition OCCs/RCCs are not "underpowered" when you consider WHAT they are, and they are easily modified to...re-read #3 above.

Cool...I've been FAQed... atleast twice!

"May your day be as eventful as you wish, and may your life only hurt as much as it has to." - Me...
Normality is Relative, Sanity is Conceptual, and I am neither.

Considering that many of the later occ's are just variations of the origonals, the base book occ's still rock. Many of the later occ's seem to have less skills or they are to specific.
Also many of the basic origonals like cyber knight, crazie and juicers never seemed to get any better as they made up new variants. At least thats what i thought, us oldies are sentimental lot.

Well, I certainly don't think that they are over-the-hill OCCs. I, for one, still enjoy hugely the Mystic OCC. It's still one of my very favourites.
I'd get up in the morning and watch the sun rise over the yardarm of my sky-ship as the sails billowed in the breeze and the land slid by 300-odd metres below. I'd grasp the mahogany ship's wheel, turn her nose a few points back onto the line, and feel pity for all those poor bastards below who have to work for a living. - My idea of the good life in Rifts.

My first character was an Wilderness scout, Stunch little MF...then came the big campaign with the CS SAMAS.......stopped play that for awhile played a line walker, Burster(didn't like that character very much), another Wilderness Scout w/master psionics, a Rogue Scholar....all from the main book.
The RMB OCC's are still the main ones used in games today, with a few exceptions for various campaigns outside the the norm...

definatly. they're the basis for all others, and are still great, dispite the power creep. Mind Melter is still my all-time favorite

I'm playing in two Rifts games now, and one of them is a Dog Boy from the original book. He's one of the better Rifts characters I've created.
I'm going to echo a sentiment that has been repeated already. The OCCs/RCCs from the RMB are really among the most versatile ones out there, and therefore allow the most latitude when choosing/developing a more customized character concept that fits your specific needs.
Plus, from a true role-playing standpoint I really like the 'blank slate' ordinary-joe quality of the Vagabond... but then again, I'm a big fan of the unassuming hero who doesn't dream of greatness but has that greatness thrust upon him instead.
