it says that lesser rune weapons do AT LEAST 4d6. not max. though only greater rune weapons tend to more than 1d4*10. 1d4*10 or 6d6 are acceptable for lessers.

I'd say it depends upon the godling in question... when I GM, on those RARE occasions I allow a godling: if the godling is Japanese, I give them a Daisho {though not ancient}; if Norse, I let them pick from spear, battle-axe, maul, or sword... same with Celtic; if Greco-Roman, spear or short-sword. There's an idea for you. I also usually give them rune weopons in the 5D6/ 1D6x5-6D6 MD range, and always of their EXACT allignment {so no you wouldn't be Unprincipled with an Anarchist weopon... it'd be compatable, yes, but I assume a godling's rune weopon is specifically made for the godling in question}.
Eyes without life, maggot-ridden corpses, mountains of skulls... these are a few of my favourite things.

Well, he's greco-roman, so I'd probably go for the gladius for a themed-type weapon... I was a bit more worried about the nitty-gritty of powers, etc.

Gladius, as in the sword larger than a dagger barely, or drusus, which the Roman infantry used, or spatha, which is what most people who have seen the movie Gladiator think of {the cavalry weopon}. If Greek, there's also the single-edged sword with the inward-curving blade which has tremendous cutting power due to its shape, tho its name evades me at the moment. But remember, to the greeks especially, the spear was the main weopon... swords and daggers were secondary and tertiary, respectively...

They have a really cool rune gauntlet in South America 1, though it's usually only given to a follower of Bast...

So, does anyone know if there is a definitive list anywhere? With my luck, it's in the Book of Magic or Splynn Market or something... Every time I want to understand something about RIFTS I have to buy a book...

There is no list that I know of in terms of specific types of lesser weapons. WB2/Atlantis has a list of specific greater/greatest types, and its duplicated in the Book of Magic. There's also some additional powers and what not in back of Dragons and Gods.
You can however get a lesser holy weapon that has extra powers but its not a true rune weapon.

Falcata... that's the name of the type of sword I was thinking of. I feel much better now...

I know this is sad, but look at some of the weapons used in King Arthur. Most of the Knights weapons are out of everywhere, but it gives a good cross section of Roman equipment from armor to swords.

I actually like the idea of his sword, looks, and background not really matching. Something like a child of Zeus and a refugee in Rifts China. The weapon could be bulit by Hesphestus and be Roman in design, but could just as easily be a weapon built in Ancient China and kept to help protect the refugees, or something totally off the wall that came out of Zeus's treasure trove. I just have a picture of a Chinese guy wearing layered Roman Legionaire armor, and wielding a Fetish bow, or something nuts. That is just an extreme, but mixing two groups can be very intriguing.

dnjscott wrote:OK, still working on that Godling-thanks for everybody's help-anyway, I checked the FAQ first this time, and I'm still confused. The Godling gets a lesser rune weapon, which from Atlantis sounds pretty vanilla-4D6 MD, linked, indestructible, nothing too flashy. But, the description says "any" lesser rune weapon, which seems odd if they're all the same...

Anyway, while thumbing through the books, I have since noticed that Indra has lesser rune weapons that are soul drinkers and inflict 1d4 x 10, and that the samurai's dashio is a lesser rune weapon. So, the Godling gets one of choice... neither of these weapons is the right flavor though, he's going to be good alignment, or maybe selfish, and not eastern...

So, does anyone know if there is a definitive list anywhere? With my luck, it's in the Book of Magic or Splynn Market or something... Every time I want to understand something about RIFTS I have to buy a book...

If your GM allows it, take a Greater Rune Weapon (one power and nothing too flashy).

Just remember, a daisho isn't a pair of TRUE rune weopons... they are considered rune weopons for purposes of damage, et cetera... so a samurai sword won't be marred by a bunch of characters along the blade. Etchings are actually pretty uncommon on katana or wakizashi.
